Gift for a New M.

When my 8 month old was born I received so many clever gifts from friends and family. However I took all the tags off and cannot remember where anything came from. Now I have two really good friends who just gave birth, who are very crafty, and I'm looking to send them something unique. Does anyone have any ideas of congratulation ideas? One person gave us a 5 ft growth chart with my sons name on it which also had little slots for pictures. This is the only thing I could think of, but again I have no clue where it came from. Any ideas or websites would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!!

The growth chart with picture slots comes from Lillian Vernon, at www.lillianvernon.com.

Other gift ideas might be scrapbooking papers and tools with a baby-related theme, or a mommy bracelet with the baby's birth stone charm or a kid charm.

I've purchased a cute frame (TJMaxx or Kohls have inexpensive, but cute)and a membership to a place like Picture People, so they can get some free pictures and perks.

Unique Bowtique in Naperville and Sweet Pea Boutique in Plainfield have cute, unique gifts as well.

We got a '5-year mold' from our son's grandma. Basically, it is 5 tins that gradually get bigger. For the first five birthdays, you press the hands into the mold and create a permanent keepsake for your child.

I just got one of these books and it was the GREATEST GIFT EVER!!!!!!!!! They have all kinds of personalized gifts, though I received the personalized fairy book for my daughter, bought the alphabet book and lamb as a first birthday gift for a little girl, and bought the animal book for a new little boy. Not terribly expensive but totally cool and thoughtful.

I like Tiffanie's advice for TJMaxx for frames. Are you familiar with Home Goods? They are a part of the TJMaxx/Marshalls group and they have tons of unique (not necessarily personalized) baby gifts, frames, etc. However, there are a few websites that I have used to purchase personalized items...lillian vernon and personal creations. I'm pretty sure that's it personal creations who has the frames with the name of the child in the matte (it's cut out of the matte, but really cute...if that makes any sense). I've also gotten a very good friend of mine a "12 month" frame from time-frames.com. These are great for capturing the month to month pictures of the baby...gosh, they change so drastically the first year. Good luck and happy shopping!
