My son has cousins, twins, who are turning 6 years old. Their mother gave me some gift ideas, but I'm at a loss. Do I buy the same gift for each boy or different gifts in the same price range? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'd like to thank everyone that took the time to respond. I ended up buying the boys each a shirt. Their mother likes to dress them in blue and red and they love basketball. So I bought them each a basketball shirt, one blue and one red with different designs. Thanks again for your help!

If there is something they would both like then get them in different colors is possible.Or if they are into different things then it's ok to get them something different. I would avoid getting the shared gift though unless it is a big gift that two is unnecessary like a tv , video game, etc.Try to spend what you would spend if you are going to different birthday parties . Some people forget that they are buying for two :)

My six year old boy/girl twins LOVE when somebody gives them a gift card to one of their favorite stores. They both love gift cards from places where there are many choices to select from such as Target, Walmart, Toys R Us, and KB Toys.

I make sure to let my kids know who the gift card is from so when we are using it, it will sink into their heads that their purchase was made possible because of him/her. I usually call the gift card giver, after my kids have selected their gifts and my twins say a little something about what they used their gift card on. I cannot stress enough how happy they are to get gift cards! It may not seem personable to others (that's how I used to feel) but.... it's what makes many kids (even young ones) very happy. And it teaches kids about money and decision making, too!

I would get then different gifts. But if you do choose to get them the same thing I would make sure they looked exactly alike.

I am very close with a set of triplets and ALL gifts MUST be identical or they fight. Sometimes even two different colors of the same thing causes problems. It might be nice to get them each something with their name on it, or a little craft table they can both play at...

Depending on how well you know them and their different personalities or what kid of gifts their mom suggested...if you can do different gifts with this criteria, then fine. Otherwise, stick with, basically, the same gift, maybe different color scheme. Like...get each a really nice beach towel w/ a gift certificate attached. Good luck!

At 6, I'm sure they have their own likes/dislikes. Were the ideas from Mom specific? If not, I'd just get them equal gift cards and let them pick out what they want. I know that sometimes people think that gift cards are impersonal. At 6 years old I'm sure they would LOVE to have their own money to go shopping with and pick out what they want.

Like another poster said, you can always attach the gift cards to a unique item for each.

As a twin myself I say different gifts.
Please, always treat them as individual children! It is very important to always respect each child and his individual likes/dislikes. Although twins will always have a bond that no one else can understand they are seperate people!

I think getting different gifts in the same price range is a good idea. I would imagine they have received the same gifts many times being twins. They are a little older now, so this would be something different. I would take the ideas their mom gave and buy them each something of their own. If you get toys, then they could share two different things if they wanted instead of having the exact same thing. I'm not a mom of twins, but that's just what I was thinking.

There was another mom that asked this question about a 6 year old present a week or so ago. I recommended a big yellow metal Tonka Truck. At 6 years old my son loved his Tonka Truck and still has that truck to this day. He is now almost 18 years old and plans to repaint it and give it to his son one day. That truck hauled everything from dirt to gravel to his hot wheels. He spent hours playing with that. Since they are twins you could get on the truck and the other the bull dozer. My son loved the bull dozer also.
I think kids have missing out on a lot of fun times when all they get for gifts is something electronic. Lets get back to basics and let a boy get dirty playing with his Tonka Trucks.

Just an idea,
S.
