My 8 week old can rip farts so loudly I blame my husband! It wakes him at night and really upsets him. Not sure if it hurts him or if it is just surprises him but either way it wakes him all the time.

I have tried over the counter gas drops and gripe water. Both help for a little while but nothing through the time that he is sleeping.

Just looking for suggestions. The minute he can roll over this kid is sleeping on his tummy!

What can I do next?

My daughter had problems at night with gas (she would start raising and dropping her legs because she was uncomfortable). She was breast fed so I gave up dairy and it did the trick. I still prefer vanilla soy milk on my Cheerios even though I haven't bf anyone in years!

Infants have really strong intestinal muscles.
I was changing our son once when he went off and I swear he shot the poop more than 5 feet away - Daddy suggested he needed to instal a blast shield on the changing table.
We only ever had a few diaper blow outs but it's caused by the same thing.
It will settle down eventually.
Are you breast feeding?
Maybe he's reacting to something you are eating - try cutting out all dairy in your diet and see if he's still gassy after a few weeks.

Try switching his formula, if he is formula-fed. If you are nursing, look at your diet and see if anything you are eating could be causing him gas.

Other than that, try getting an extra burp out of him when feeding. Maybe he is swallowing more air than usual, and if he doesn't burp it out it's gonna come out the only other way there is...

It probably just startled him. My daughter had horrible tarts as a newborn-she sounded like a full grown man! When I asked pur pediatrician about it, his response was"good-she's getting the gas out!"

The gas probably wakes him because is surprises him and the feeling of it and the noise of it, startles... him. And, infants have a 'startle' reflex as well. Which they outgrow as they get older.

When my daughter was a baby... she had gas issues. ie: gas pain.
ie: the problem was not that she had gas, but that the gas did not come out... hence she had gas pains, and that, woke her.
She rarely farted or burped. Though I tried. Hence I gave her Mylicon Infant Gas drops, which helped, because then it eased the gas pains because then, it helped her body to expel it.

Ours rolled over within the first 2 weeks. The ped said, once they learn how, there is little you can do to stop them from rolling. Make sure that their bed is a safe environment to minimize risks of sids. No blankets, pillows, bumpers, toys etc.

We used sleep sacks, they worked for us.

To help with the gas, make sure he is getting time between feedings, eating when hungry, not just snacking, gets a chance to work his gas out before being put down. A few good deep burps, and bicycling his feet will help.

Best,

My one daughter had bad gas issues. It peaks at I think 4 weeks and usually settles down around 8 weeks so, soon.

Maybe a tiny little bit of water each day? I know you have to be very careful with that, because they need to not fill up on water.

If you're bf'ing, be VERY careful about your diet ie eliminate gassy type foods. If bottles, maybe switching formulas.

We put the Mylicon drops into the nursery water then added the powder formula. Then we gently swirled it to mix. This way the water didn't have a lot of air mixed in and his reflux was so much easier to manage.
