Is this appropriate for kindergartners? commonsense media rated it at 14.

do you have it for your kids and is it really ok for a 5 yo?

no mama's not a troll. I'm asking because a 5 yo sibling of a boy in my sons scout troop was playing it. DS was watching over his shoulders and has been having nightmares now.

But I was trying not to bias the question right off. Since I have seen people post that they would take their 5 yo to the midnight premier of Bat Man etc. and think nothing of it.

I have not seen this freddy game, it's some sort of stuffed animals robots at a pizza shop like chucky cheeses come to life thing??? no blood and guts right?

other than repeating to DS that it isnt' real and that he should think good thought before bed, what can I do to help him with the nigihtmares??? And how do I deal with him not having friends because all the kids are playing this and I have told him if it disturbs him he shouldn't play it or watch others play it. he says kids at school play it too.

Wish this was a troll question. What the heck are these parents thinking?

What can I do next?

Oh thank goodness you have more common sense than that!

Original:
Speechless.

Why did you bother looking at csm if you aren't going to read it or go by the age?

"Common Sense Media says
Terrifying psychological thriller is too much for kids."

"Parents need to know Five Nights at Freddy's is a horror game that uses tension and jump scares in place of blood and guts -- and, as a result, is a lot scarier than many other titles. The sense of being trapped and defenseless in a small office quickly becomes real -- and when the animatronic characters jump out at you, you'll jump (and maybe scream). This makes the game much too intense for younger kids -- and teens should know what they're getting into."

Lilly - I've not read ahead - but am surprised that people don't recognize you - you've been here a LONG TIME!!! I'm not calling you troll....

my kids are 12 and 14 and don't "do" these types of games...

Here's a rating for it...
http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/five-nights-at-freddys

People are saying "this is horror done right"...

I personally wouldn't allow a 5 year old to play this game. If he's having nightmares because of it? I would take it away and let him know he can play it when he's older and can handle it better.

If his friends won't be "friends" with him because he can't play it?? They aren't friends. My boys are NOT allowed to play Grand Theft Auto. Period. End of story. They know I will not allow them to go to that friend's house again if they play the game there...and I will KNOW if they have played it...just like Saints Row...I KNOW if they have played it - they are more aggressive and pissy...the parents of my boys' friends KNOW they are not allowed to play those two games. And guess what? There are so many other games out there that it's not a problem....it's called respect and friendship...

so if these "friends" won't be friends anymore because he can't play it? It's THEIR loss, not his...and he needs to find TRUE friends....

What were those parents thinking?? They weren't...they were more interested in letting a video game babysit their kids or being their kid's friends instead of being the parent...it's OKAY to say NO!!!

No, I don't think this would be a game for small children. My daughter (8) told me about it and she let me know she would not want to play this. I don't think there is blood and gore but it is scary.

I don't think any 5 yr old needs to play any horror based games.
Do your kid a favor (and your self too - you'll be the one who's going to be up with him with when he has nightmares) and get him something more age appropriate.
If 'all his friends' are playing it - then he needs some new friends.
You can't help that the parents of his friends are idiots.
Sign him up for taekwondo after school so he doesn't have time to spend with these people.

And did the words "common sense" confuse you?

ETA: Sorry for any assumptions that I made. Apparently the game characters are similar to Chuck E Cheese animatronics. And it doesn't involve blood. But what it does do is trick the player into a sense of being defenseless, with extremely scary scenes and fear. Many of the sites say that it is truly frightening and causes nightmares, and it's called "survival horror".

Many parents probably think that it's no worse than the Chuck E Cheese toys and they don't bother to read the warnings.

I'd remind your son that he is in control, that he can shut off a game, that the game has no power after it's off, and that he needs to practice walking away from things he knows are not good to see. I'm sorry he got scared. You might give him a scented cloth (a face cloth sprayed lightly with perfume) to keep with him for a couple of nights while he is dealing with this.

My 12 yo and 15 yo (who has Asperger's) both saw it on their friends phones and they have slept with the lights on. I have not seen it myself but a rating at 14 should be a no-brainer warning about a 5 yo playing it. Good luck.

I guess I'm on the other end of this game. I find it boring and stupid. The initial scare is enough to make you jump but its more for the unexpected but once you know its coming its not scary. Maybe for a 5 year old it would be much but my 9 & 7 year old play it and they haven't told me it scares them. Heck they like to jump out from behind walls and shower curtains to scare eachother and have been for a very long time now. There is no blood and guts in the first one. In the second one I think the original characters have been tore up a little so some stuffing might be coming out and maybe an ear missing? I've just seen glances of it here and there. But since your son has already seen it and is having bad thoughts about it. Keep him away and just assure him that its not real and its a silly game.
