My oldest daughter will be celebrating her First Communion at the end of April. I married Catholic but was raised Lutheran, so I never had a First Communion. I am wondering what would would be an appropriate yet meaningful gift to give her to commemorate this special occasion.

What can I do next?

There are nice personable gifts that can be found at Things Remembered, Personal Creations, etc. You can just google personalized first communion gifts and go from there.

It has been way too many years since my First Communion but I'd suggest a nice rosary or a small bible she can carry maybe with her name engraved on it. Congratulations on this big step.

Hi, M.! If your daughter likes jewelry, there is a website, www.deirdreandcompany.com, where you can find reasonably priced silver jewelry that is faith-based. Deirdre is the artist, a silversmith. She is local, in south Minneapolis.

This page has gifts appropriate for girls: http://deirdreandcompany.com/index.php?contentID=32

Blessings!

A necklace is always the "classic" gift for First Communion/Confirmation.

Hi M., We have four daughters who have all received First Communion. I always purchased for the girls the little sets that have a little purse, with a prayer book and a rosary in it. For the special gift ,I purchased a cross necklace for them to wear on their First Communion day and to keep for the rest of their lives.

My daughter made her 1st Communion last year and I too had a hard time looking for something special. She received a beautiful Bible. A few other suggestions would be a rosary, a 1st Communion pendant, or a cross. You can google 1st Communion gifts also and they have great ideas to share. May God Bless your daughter on her special day! What a great way to show her faith and grow into it!

When I made my First Communion 40+ years ago my parents gave me a beautiful cross with few diamond chips in it. To this day I still have it and wear it on very special occasions. There is all always the standby of a "girl" Bible--white cover...
Congratulations to your daughter on her upcoming joyous day...

I'm not sure where my mom found it but I received a cross with a prayer in it. There is a tiny magnifying glass on the front of the cross and when you look inside you can read the entire Lord's Prayer.

Hi M.,
I was raised Catholic and made my 1st communion in first grade. My parents gave me the prettiest dainty cross on a chain and had it "blessed" by the priest that was going to officiate over the communion.

To this day - I still have the cross although the chain broke about 30 yrs ago. I am now 52 and don't have much at all from my childhood - but I do have that and it will be passed down to one of my granddaughters when my time comes.

This is a glorious day and I send blessings across to you and your family.

Great suggestions below. St Patrick's Guild is a great resource. I don't know where you are located, but they have both a storefront in St. Paul and are online at www.stpatricksguild.com/. They are a family -owned business with everything Catholic based. They just sent out a catalog with all their communion items in it and there were some beautiful gifts (I would send it to you, but I just recycled it.) Maybe they could send you one? Otherwise their website and store are both filled with Communion gifts. Best wishes!

I'm always a fan of a bible that is readable at her age range. It's fun to be able to read the stories herself!
