My 4 month old had to have a NG tube placed because of some health concerns. We offer the bottle to him everytime and whatever he doesn't finish we put through the feeding tube. At first he was drinking 2 to 2.5 ounces by mouth and then the rest through the tube. Our PED switched him to soy formula and it is concentrated to 27 calories. Now everytime we offer him the bottle he cries and cries and will only drink about an ounce. The PED would like for him to drink 4 to 5 ounces each feeding every 3 hours. Does anybody have any suggestions on what could of changed to cause him not to want to eat?
Could bee the formula. WIthout background, it is hard to know. I guess I would call the peds and alert them. It could be as simple as switching to another formula. Trust me, if they have fortified your formula to 27 calories, the calories are needed and they are not wanting him to cry and use up so many jouls of energy and kind of defeat the purpose. Call the pediatrician or your feeding clinic if you are working with one.
First I am sorry you are dealing with these issues, I know how difficult it can be.
It could be possibly the formula. Either the taste or maybe it upsets his tummy.
Was he FTT? My son was placed onto NG tube 24 hrs a day at 6 months until 11 months due to medical issues but he was to have nothing by mouth for the first few months. It could be a number of things. How long has he had the tube in? Was he taking the bottle fine even with the tube before the Soy formula? Lots of babes start to figure out that they can get fed with out having to do it and get it through the tube. It can actually hinder some feeding issues.

slow the drip in the tube down. my dad was on one and they were giving it to him faster than he could digest it. stomach feeding tubes make their stomachs shrink. is the ped a specialist if not get one. a normal kid would eat 4-5 oz every 3 hours and he has it going into his stomach and they want him to eat that on top of it????? not right. you are dripping him right???? if not it may be going in to fast and it may be making him gassy.he also may be allergic to soy. get a specialist in his disorder or your going to be running in circles for no reason.
I suggest he doesn't like the taste of the soy. Have you tasted it. Very strong flavor.
I had my daughter on soy for awhile when she was having issues with regular formula. I had almost the same issues..she would refuse to drink much, have horrible gas, and be really constipated. We did eventually find a formula that works for her, it was Similac Sensitive. I am not sure if your little guy is unable to use standard formula but maybe talk to your doctor about your concerns and see what other options you have for formula. Good luck!
