Hello,
I'm still undecided on which color to paint our small living room:-(, What are some of your favorite nuetral paint colors and what brand? Is it necessary to put primer on the wall before painting? If so, which brand of primer should I use? Thank you in advance:-)

What can I do next?

I took white paint and had Lowe's add in a splash of a real pretty red. It made a very faint pink. It looks so pretty and feminine. From far away the walls look pretty white but when you are in the room and the light hits it you can just see the pink and it is so soft. I love it!

I also like Sherwin Williams paint, very good quality. My favorite nuetral color is "Latte". It's a light tan, but doesn't have any of the pink hues to it. It's so popular amongst our family and friends that both my mom and I have it in our house and I have two friends who have used it in a room or hallway.

As for primer I think it matters what color you're painting over. There are some paints that you can purchase that have the primer right in it, however they are more expensive. I personally have always used a primer with two coats of paint. That way you get a rich color.

Best of luck!

I really like a nice pale green. It is warm, and soothing. And matches just about anything. Or a pale yellow is nice too. Yes, always prime before painting. It helps the color stick better, and if you like there are many paints with the primer already in the paint which makes it alot easier.

this seems pretty cool - I havent tried it myself, just Found it!
we painted our living room (5 years ago) Louisville Green by Sherwin-Williams. I Adore it, is a fantastic neutral and just makes the living room seem 'comfortable' /homey. We've gotten alot of compliments on it. I cant find it in their color chart (on the web), like I said it was along time ago, But from what I can tell on their website, Great Green and Mesclun Green seem to be the closest. Yes Prime :-) our Hallway is Khaki from Home Depot... cant remember the name of the maker tho. Good Luck and Have FUN with it - you can Always buy those little sample colors and paint squares around the living room and see what they look like during the day light and at night with your lights on, and see which one your eyes keep gravitating towards :-)
OMG: how could i forget my kitchen is "latte" LOL its a Great shade too !!!

I like the paint with the primer inside, so there are less steps. I lovvvvve beige for a nuetral wall color, I have beige and red and brown in my living room /entry hall and dining. Then beige and dark green in my pool room. And in my bedroom, dark green , grey, sage, and beige. Beige absolutely goes with everything, you can change up the linens, and trim and carpet and it will smoothly work into the transition.

One thing to do first, is to decide if you want "cool" tones, or "warm" tones.
People usually have a preference. And it will determine the ambiance of the room.
Some off-whites for example, can have a gray undertone to it, making it a 'cool' coloration. And thus, it will determine what other things/accessories will match in that room.
Or off-whites can have a 'warm' undertone to it, with a slightly yellow cast to it. This will create a 'warm' palette.

So, that would be my tip.

But yes, primer first.
The paint store will tell you which one is best.

Oh, good question. We did Lyndhurst stone from lowes. I can't remember the brand though. It was part of the historical colors. It is a great earthy color. We have dark woods, but also maroon shades. We are into primitive art, and everything goes well with it. Good luck!

I suggest a pale grey. We painted a color called Silver Sword in our small office and it looks great. I then trimmed and decorated in black but I had so many colors to chose from that would go with grey.

We put a Behr color called "Cornerstone" everywhere in our old house. A nice buttery color. My mother in law liked it so much she put it in her family room.
