My period was a week and a half late this month, very odd for me, and I have just been feeling off. I took a test, but it came out negetative. With my son I didn't find out I was preg. till I was 12 weeks because I didn't miss my period till the 3rd month and the first 2 months it was normal. I'm not sure if I should just wait till next month and see what happens or just test again.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone for the advice. You have all been so helpful with this. I have taken another test and it still says no, but I am still not feeling like me. I will be calling this week to make an appointment with a gyno. just to be sure. Thanks again.

Take another test, it doesn't have to be expensive, take a couple of cheap ones. 1 when you get home from the store and one as directed.

Take good vitamins and folic acid. And wait a few more weeks. In the old days before we found out we were pregnant right way we didn't know until 8-12 weeks along. Many people miscarry in the first 6-8 wks and its very sad, we didn't know it back then so we didn't have as much of the heartache as you younger ones. As a young women in the child bearing age, you should eat right and take the vitamins so your body is always ready to be pregnant. I don't think that knowing your pregnant four days after you missed period is always such a great thing because of what could happen in the first few weeks. I hope whatever happens it is right for you. Best of luck.

A negative is usually a negative. If you can. go to the doctor or a family planning clinic and retest.

I would go to the doctor to have a preg. test done if you are thinking you could be preg. I have irregular periods all the time. Before I got married and started having sex, I went six months without a period! I knew I wasn't pregnant, so I asked the doctor. He said don't worry about it and it never happened again. Now, I'm 42 and my periods are a week EARLY every month! I would rather have the missed months now.

The best thing to do is to see your doctor and have a blood test. They are much more accurate than peeing on a stick.

Get a blood test from the doctor. I don't want to alarm you, but this also happened to me. I missed my period and felt like dirt. The pregnancy test came out negative so I went to the doctor to find out what was wrong. I was pregnant. They monitored my hormone levels and did an ultra sound. No heart beat. They made me come back the next week for all the same stuff, hormone levels up but not by much and still no heartbeat. Another week of that and found out that I had a miscarriage. It was odd becuase the sack kept growing but nothing in it. I had to get a D&C. I hope it doesn't happen, but if you are that late, don't chance anything. Good luck.

Hi A.. I had a false negative recently also. I took the test the day I was due to start my period but it was negative. After still not getting my period, I took another one a week later and that one was positive, and now I'm 5 months pregnant. My advice would be to wait a week and take another one. Good luck!

I had my daughter in September of '99. When I first thought I was pregnant in February, I went to the Dr. The urine test came back negative. I tried donating platelets but couldn't because my platelets were off the charts in the hundreds of thousands for "some unexplainable reason" and clogged the needle. My blood volume was doubling the way it was supposed to. Two months later in April, I still felt the first test was wrong, my jeans didn't fit right and my belly area felt "odd" to me like there was a hard bump there. This was my first pregnancy, so I didn't know what to feel for. :) That is because there was a "bump" there. It turned out that I was TWO months pregnant in February and FOUR-AND-A-HALF MONTHS in April. Turns out my hormone levels were too low to measure in February. My daughter was born a healthy 8 lbs 13 oz.

Basically, if you think you might be pregnant start treating your body as if you are. Drink plenty of orange juice for the folic acid, eat right, excersize reasonably, stop smoking and/or alcohol if you enjoy those right now. You know - all of the usual stuff they say not to do if you're pregnant. You may need to wait a wee bit longer and then take another test.

You can get the better tests at the Dollar-type stores at more reasonable prices.

Good luck! I hope you get the answer you're wanting.

Hi A.,
You should really go see your doctor for a more acurate test such as a blood test. Let them know how you have been feeling so they can do some extra blood work on you. Especially since you didn't stop having your period until you were 12 weeks with you son. Just make sure there is nothing else going on.
Good luck!

Buy a dollar store brand pregnancy test - they are one of the most sensitive OTC tests you can get.

Take it very first thing in the morning when your urine is the most concentrated to get the most accurate results.

Good luck!

Seems everyone is giving good advice. I would decinately go see your doctor. However, I went to a family planning clinic and told them that I was showing signs that I was pregnant and they said the test showed negative. The only thing I do not agree with as far as what others have advised you is when they said to get the cheapest test. If I were you, I would get the digital one. Good Luck...T.

If you really think you might be pregnant ask your doctor to run a serum pregnancy test. I work in lab and found out that I was pregnant before I ever missed my period by doing this.

Hi A.,
Let me tell you. Sometimes a false negative but Never a false positive. I had a feeling I was pregnant so I went to the doctor for a BLOOD test thinking that would be more accurate. Boy was I wrong! They told me it was negative but a few weeks later I still felt off and guess what! I went to walmart and bought the cheapest home test and there it was....the big plus. Thank God, I have a wonderful husband and everything worked out perfect. I have a 17 year old son, 15 and 5 year old daughter. Good luck!

My doctor has always told me that it could be stress that makes us late, so to take another test in one week if you still haven't started. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate...being a mom, going to school full time and working 2 jobs! Crazy! I would take another test and see what it says. Don't stress about it...it will only make you even more late. Good luck!

I would retest or see your doctor. Same happen with me. I was 3 weeks late and same odd feeling. I tested twice and both were neg. 2 more months went by when i finally decided to see a doctor. And come to find out i was already 13 weeks along. Kinda scarry considering the 1st 3months are the most important. Retest or visit a doctor
