Eewwww - Lice

So, we had our friend's girls sleep over on Saturday. We got a call on Wednesday letting us know they had lice. I have seen no signs on my kiddos (or me) since. However, I know it can take a bit to show up. I've washed all sheets, pillow cases, bedspreads... what else can or should I do in the meantime (while I keep checking them). What's the likelihood we'll get lice? This is new to me. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I would get some tea tree oil shampoo as an extra precaution and just keep looking for signs. Some people say that tea tree oil to treat or prevent lice is a myth but I have a friend who ran a large daycare center who always had her daughter shampoo with tea tree oil and so far she's never had lice, even with outbreaks at daycare and later, at school.

Hopefully you avoided it!

There is a brand of hair care products called Fairy Tales that is supposed to repel lice. My friend uses it on her kids whenever a lice notice comes home from school.

Good luck!

Lice have a very short life. If you haven't seen them yet you probably won't. I'd say if you had been infested you'd already have white nits plus the 2nd generation would be on the hair shafts with the babies still in the nit.

Whenever my girls come home with a lice notice, I start spraying their heads, clothes and backpacks with a diluted tea tree oil solution. I also do a thorough combing check every 4 days or so. So far, so good.

I've also heard good things about using coconut oil, but haven't tried it myself.

Check and comb. That is THE single most important thing. Keep checking and combing every day for a couple of weeks.

Just checking them is all you need to do. Anything else is a waste of time. Either they will have it or they won't.
