Hi J. - My son had eczema that wouldn't go away for awhile. I took him to the doctor and got some cream (starts with 'Fu'something I can't remember the name of the cream). I was very consistent with the eczema cream and lotion - eventually the eczema went away.

Good luck!

P.S. in case you are wondering what kind of lotion, I used California Baby Sensistive lotion (you can get that from target).

My oldest had it really bad and I wish then that I'd have known it is related to allergies. The sun helps make it better, as does putting vasoline on after a bath (however, because of it's nature, infections are very easy to get when you use vasoline on a "wound").

We used Cetaphil for soap-

If I knew then what I know now I would start with the most common foods that kids are allergic to and eliminate them all for a couple of weeks and then add them back one by one to see if any of them seemed to make it worse.

I would also eliminate all perfumed stuff from my laundry and bathroom products and quit using chemicals to clean with.

The goal is to get as much stuff that may be toxic to her out of your environment. That is what I wish I'd done for my daughter. BTW- she is 25 now and very rarely has flare-up, usually when she is under stress. (also a toxin)

Hi J.,

I personally have had eczema my whole life and now my 12 month old son does too. It can be very frustrating so good luck to you with everything. My experience has been that most doctors will just prescribe topical corticosteroids to relieve the rashes. These work, but over long periods of time they can affect the elasticity of skin (I have facial eczema and with hydrocortisone use I have a lot of early wrinkles now). I believe that most of eczema is due to a combination of a genetically inherited tendency for dry, sensitive skin and allergies to the environment or to food. Lotions help with the dryness and creams help to stop the allergic reaction.

I was devastated when I realized my son also had eczema but I have learned to control it with a combination of diet and natural creams. Although I can't test him for food allergies yet, his eczema got significantly better after I eliminated dairy and soy from his diet. For creams, my friend recommended California Baby Calendula Cream (available at Target, Whole Foods, online) and using a really mild laundry detergent (Biokleen). Even after only one day, his rashy spots got sooo much better!

Diagnosing food allergies is really hard. I went to a Chinese Doctor in LA who can diagnose allergies to relieve asthma and eczema, and that helped alot.

Also, for more information you can check out: www.solveeczema.org (This site links eczema to a commonly used detergent called SLS which is in almost everything.) My friend with even worse eczema said eliminating all SLS products in her house completely changed everything.

Anyways, I don't mean to write too much. You can always message me if you have any other questions.

Good luck!! E.

My daughter who is now 10 used to get it all the time behind her knees when she was younger. The doctor gave us a cream that seemed to work(triamcinolone). You can also try giving her a bath in Aveeno oatmeal. That may atleast help with the itching. I think she has grown out of it now. She only gets it from time to time and not as bad.
