I just switched my son from Good Start Supreme to Enfamil Gentlease last night because of his gas and fussiness. Now, he seems to be hungry all of the time and even more fussy than before. Is there any other moms that have given their babies this formula? If so, did they eat more of it than regular formula. I don't know if he is still transitioning from the other formula and his stomach is upset or what. Please help!!!

What can I do next?

My first son was had colic and I did switch to Gentlease, and it made a little bit of a difference in his fussiness. I honestly don't remember whether he ate more or not. It's going to take some time though. It may take up to a week for your son to get used to the new formula. Imagine if all you ever ate or drank was coke, and then all of a sudden someone made you start drinking diet coke; they are basically the same, but there is a noticeable difference in taste and it will take a few days to get use to. If you still have some of his old formula left make his bottles with half the old stuff and half the Gentlease for a day or two, then switch to all Gentlease, doing this really made the transition easier for my son. I hope this helps!

Switch to Good Start Soy - it is far gentler on the infant digestive system than typical milk and whey based formulas. My daughter exhibited the same symptoms as yours at about 5 or 6 week, and was diagnosed with acid reflux:if your child spits up at every meal, but still wants to eat constantly, it is axid reflux. They want to drink more despite the upset tummy because it makes the burning of the reflux feel better. The pediatrician prescribed us liquid zantac, and told us to use soy formula. She used the zantac for about 4 months, and along with the soy formula, her reflux went away.
Take him to the pediatrician, and describe the symptoms. He/she will know exactly what to do for YOUR baby. But try to have it taken care of as soon as possible, he is likely very uncomfortable and in pain.

Hi J.;

It depends on how old your baby is, you might want to try putting some rice cereal in his formula. I had this problem with my son when he was about the same age and my mother recommended that I try putting the cereal in with his formula and he seemed to take to it really well and was less fussy and didn't need to eat as much.

I hope that this helps.

I have not used either of those particular ones, but I know enfamil would cause my son to spit up a lot. I also know that all soy formulas would make him sick. If he countinues having problems I would try a non-dairy formula for a little while. Maybe you got a can as a sample you can try. Remember that their little tummies take time to adjust to everything new they try. Each formula is a little different, so don't give up right away. Give it a few days, unless you see obvious signs of alergy. -J

My son had the same probolem. I put him right back on what I had him on...it is the Costco brand. He has done absolutely fine. I'm wondering why you switched him though...my pediatrician told me that they are basically the same exact thing...the "comfort proteins" are the same. I wouldn't recommend putting your son on soy or lactofree formula without first consulting his doctor though. When my 2nd child had stomach problems, that was a last resort...it actually made him worse and caused him to have digestive problems that he still has 2 years later. Be cautious, our little ones have sensitive systems. If you are still having a serious problem, I'd try a different formula. It can take a week or so to be fully adjusted though. Good luck.
