My 10 month old refuses to eat off a spoon. She even refuses to eat solids like cereal or those puffers. I need some help. I will try to give it to her and she locks her lips and shakes her head from side to side. If I continue to do it she will throw a fit. Any thoughts???

What can I do next?

have you tried putting the cereal on your finger?? my little girl went from finger, to fork, to only pink spoons- then she finally got used to normal spoons-- but it took a good month and a half!! good luck!!

I am the mother of 3 and my middle child, female and strong-willed, was a challenge to feed as an infant. She was almost exclusively breastfed for her first year. I think it was a control issue for her. She would only eat foods she could feed herself. It limited food selection quite a bit, due to the limited fine-motor control of infancy, and lack of teeth. I followed her lead as much as possible.
My oldest was a very picky eater starting as a toddler(my youngest still is)and it was a sensory issue. He has slowly grown to love a wide variety of foods. It was a long road though. Sometimes it's a matter of finding out what textures a child does or does not like.
I think forcing it can sometimes make the problem worse. I don't know if it helps any, but my advice is give your baby what she'll accept. She'll expand her diet as she feels comfortable and in control. Good luck!!!

My daughter did that to me at about that age - and she'll still do that now ( age 22 months ). The trick is to let her take the spoon and attempt to feed herself! I know this may make you cringe like it does me but for some reason those little buggers want to be so independent. Even try giving her her own spoon and you have yours so some food will get into her mouth. Hope this helps.

My daughter is 8 months old and doing the same thing. So I decided to go back to the bottle for a while, and in a few days I'll try it again. How are you mixing her cereal? I started mixing mine with formula and that went over a little better, and veggies seem to be hit or miss. I've also started waiting until I *know* she's hungry. Otherwise, she just snacks. I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless she's refusing a bottle as well, then definitely get her to a doctor. Good luck. :)
