Don't Understand Medicaid Eligibility

I had to sign up for medicaid because I am not able to sign up for private healthcare since I am 24 weeks pregnant. I just moved to a new state which is why things are kind of chaotic. Anyway, I applied for medicaid and got accepted. I received a letter in the mail with a certification of eligibility. It says that my eligible dates are fomr 7/10-9/10. I am confused about what this means. My due date isn't until December 5th, so I would obviously need coverage longer.
Are these dates just presumptive eligible dates until I am fully accepted into Medicaid? Will they re-look over my case after those dates?
I'm so confused and, as usual, it's really hard to get questions answered with the government.

Does anyone know what this means or has anyone had experience on Medicaid that they can help explain? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

I was fired from my job after 10 years of loyalty and excellent track record when I was 4 months pregnant. I, too, had to get medicaid....so embarrassing! Sometimes medicaid prints only 60 days of eligibility at a time, then reissues your paperwork for the next 60 days, and so on. Their process is goofy, but I'm sure there is a reason for it. Give them a call. In Texas it doesn't take long to get questions answered. I hope you have the same experience in Georgia. Good luck and congrats on the baby!

In Illinois, we get a new card (piece of paper) in the mail every month. It's ridiculous because the money they spend sending out a card to everyone every month could be used to help people. Every so often, they send paperwork to fill out that we send back to verify that we are still eligible for coverage. As long as your circumstances stay the same, you would continue to be eligible and receive a new card each period of eligibility. I'm glad you don't live in Illinois, because you would NEVER get a hold of your caseworker. I hope your state is better!

Medicaid is horrible about doing stuff like that. It's such a blessing to have it, but such a hassle to understand it. It could have been a mis-print. And it meant 9/11. Are you married? A lot of times Medicaid won't cover everything when you're married, crazy huh? Anyway, I would just keep calling until you can get someone to answer your questions. It may take a full day, but at least you'll know. Good luck!

Reread your letter. They do offer coverage for pregnant women and children if you have any bill's 3 months prior to coverage with medicad if you have had no coverage and have an outstanding balance. This may be what the coverage is for as of right now.Since your not due till Dec. your coverage will not end till 6 weeks post partum after that you will be denied coverage but your baby will continue coverage as long as you provide all the information needed to enroll your baby into Medicaid.I hope that was clear for you sometimes you have to read the entire letter and call the customer care center to get all questions clear because every state is different.

I would just call your case worker, the number should be listed on your paperwork. I live in Minnesota and they try their hardest to make it impossible to get healthcare when you are pregnant. im going thru the same thing right now. They are actually trying to get my FH for child support too. I would just call and explain whats going on, and hopefully they can fix it. Its a very messed up system.

You can look up Medicaid requirements, policies, and procedures on the Internet under your state's government site.

It sounds like maybe you got the answer already, but I just went through this! and the lady was great and very clear. She actually told me about this before I even asked. Their method of doing things has changed. Before they would send you something every month in the mail stating that you were covered for that month...it has now changed, but they have yet to change it on the papers they send out. So, in other words, you are covered through your pregnancy and can pretty much ignore those dates. good luck!

Usually what that means is that they will cover any bills starting on 7/10/10. until your 6 week check up. The baby is usually covered for a full year after birth. Maybe you should call the local number on your letter to see why they have you for only 2 months.

I agree that you should check with them. Never assume it's an error or that you're covered past that period! You may end up with no coverage. Our state does the straight Medicaid for 60 days then has you pick a plan too. Or maybe they want to reverify your income and situation again before renewing. Make sure you stay on top of it so your coverage doesn't lapse, that happened to my sister.
