I am kinda surprised at how much money I spend on my dog....and when reading the packages of some of the stuff...I realized, I might spend some time making my own treats for them...I think in the end, it would end up saving me money....

it's funny, but i make my own great horse treats all the time, but it seems wacky to me to make 'em for the dog and cats!

I think it's an excellent idea, because my dog almost died from the treats I bought at Costco, but were really made in China.
My girlfriend in VA, her daughter made them for years and sold them to neighbors to earn $$. Very smart. Start a business too W. One!!
I have been trying to get my dog to lose a little bit of weight. My stepmom has been feeding him scraps for years, now that they live with me, I want us all to eat healthy. So, I give the dog cheerios as treats, and my kids love cheerios too. And he eats a small handful of dogfood mixed with an equal amount of green beans for dinner. The green beans act as a filler, so he doesnt feel starved. Good Luck

my neighbor used to make her own dog biscuits but only as a special treat.. she would make them for christmas for her dog and send some over for mine.. it definatley wasnt cheap so depending on how many treats your dog eats i dont think its going to save you any money
I give my dogs carrots - a big chunk and sometimes a whole carrot. They love, love, love them.

I've never tried it, but have considered many times. The one I've thought about doing is buying beef liver and cutting into strips or bites and baking. I make them sometimes. I usually melt. a couple of TBS peanut butter, mix in oats, wheat flour and an egg or two. Itvis usually about two cups dry then add water as needed. Then I put small pieces on a cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 10 minutes or so. For cats I have done some with tuna or canned salmon. Carrots are a favorite here too. I also buy the roll dog food and cut into small pieces for training treats. There are lots of great recipes. I do usually refrigerate ones I make. Have fun, I'm sure your pets will love them.
