Hi,
My 37 lb 2 year old toddler is rapidly growing out of his car seat. We currently have him in the Evenflo (not sure the model name) 5 point harness type that sits very high in our Honda pilot. He is tall and it makes placing this big guy in the seat very challenging at times (my back has been killing me lately). Can anyone recomend a brand and model that they like that will meet my needs. Hopefully this will be on of our last car seat purchases. Thanks for your respomses!

Hi C.,
I would consider the Graco Nautilus or the Britax Regent for your son. I would probably lean more towards the Regent because he sounds big for his age, and he would get to stay in a 5-point harness longer in the Regent.

Someone else recommended the SK Radian 80, but that definitely would not be my first choice of car seat for your son, as far as ease of use and installation goes.

I am a local car seat technician, feel free to send me a private message if you are interested in having the installation of your son's seat checked out, I can give you some info about local fitting stations that you can make an appointment with to get his seat checked out. :-)

Hi C.,

You could also look at the Sunshine Kids Radian 80. It is fairly new on the market. It goes up to 80 pounds, is low profile, and has a steel frame. Good luck!

i will never put my boys in anything but a britax. my 5.5 year old is in a regent with a LOT of room to grown, my 2 year old is in a boulevard with a good bit of room as well. we also have a marathon and parkway in my husband's car, but we don't use it much. just a quick narrative on the britax - both boys were in boulevards last summer with my mom in her minivan, she was forced off the road by an 18-wheeler between little rock and memphis, her cruise was set around 75mph, they FLIPPED front over back several times, then rolled 4 times - both boys had NOT A SINGLE SCRATCH. i immediately trashed those two seats b/c of the wreck and bought two more britax seats, the cops at the scene were even commenting that they were going to buy those seats for their kids after seeing how they performed in that wreck!

Graco just came out with the Nautilus (spelling??) which has a harness up to 65 lbs. That is the one we are getting next. Some seats may have a harness, but if you read the manual, it is not approved to use the harness past 40 lbs, so watch for that when searching.

Sounds like we have a lot in common. I have two boys, one who is four years old and 55 lbs and one that just turned two and is 36 lbs! I love the Britax Regent I have for my 4 year old. It's seat is lower (no bulky base) and I think he can sit in it until he weighs 80+ lbs. My 2 year old is in a Britax Marathon and I do have the problem with the head bumping too (in my Honda Pilot). I say invest in the Regent. It's perfect!
