Did You Raise Crib Mattress Back up for Second Baby or Leave It Down?

I hate the thought of going to all that trouble if I'm just gonna have to lower it again soon. The only issue I can think of is it might be harder to support a newborn's head if I have to reach down further. What did you do?

What can I do next?

All that trouble? Doesn't it take like 60 seconds? And make laying the baby down and picking him/her up that much easier?
Am I missing something?

I'm only about 5' tall So I had to raise it. If I had kept it lowered I would practically have to climb into the crib with my second one in order to lay her down using the support she needed.

We raised ours back up. It's so much easier to get them in and out when they're tiny if the mattress is higher

I did lift it back up for my second. It was just so much easier to get him in and out. All those achy ab muscles and everything, having to bend over the full distance just didn't sound like any fun. We bought a new crib for our third and she was at the highest setting as well in the beginning.

I raised mine back up. (well, technically my HUSBAND raised it)

I had two c-sections and it was hard to get over the top of the crib to the bottom to pick up the baby without squishing my belly.

Save your back and raise it up for a bit. You only have one back and it will get much strain as it is. Just remember to lower at the right time.

I'm short, I prefer it higher. So yes, we raised it for all three.

Remember the size of your baby when you lowered the mattress? She was much more stable and easier to lay down and to lift up than a newborn. I, too, wonder what you mean by "all that tourble." Just remove the mattress and lift the springs to slide into the slot then return the mattress. Really no trouble at all.

They're OK placed higher up when yhe baby is younger because the CAN'T climb/ fall over.
Bonus? Easier on your back.
But the main reason it adjusts is SAFETYas they get older/climbing, etc.
So safety wise, it makes no difference if you start them lower.

I don't remember that lowering it was a big deal, why would raising it?
Good luck!

I didn't have to raise it back up - we had a 4 year difference so older child was not still in the crib and the crib was dismantled and in the attic. We set it up all over again, starting with the mattress up high and lowering it the same as we did the first time. My husband did the assembling and lowering, never complained about it being a big deal.

I am going to be rising it, but only because I am short. It is hard for me to reach down low now that cribs are not dropside.

I definitely started out with the crib mattress raised.
When my milk came in and carrying the weight of the baby changed from my belly to my arms, my back and upper shoulders hurt so badly that I couldn't really bend over until I got used to it. I had to kneel in front of the couch or bed to change their diapers.

Changing the height of the mattress and lowering it later isn't that big a deal, in my opinion.

Best wishes!

I left mine down. The baby slept in the bedroom with us in a bassinet until she started sleeping longer stretches (I can't remember how old she was...still small enough for the bassinet and not rolling over yet). I didn't have any trouble laying her down. If you have trouble reaching all the way to the bottom of the crib, get a little stool. My first was still in her crib when I was pregnant with my second. When my belly got too big to bend over the crib I used a stool so I could kind of hook my belly over the top.

I lower them back down, especially since all my babies have been c-sections. Also, my babysitter is about 6 inches shorter than I am, so she'd have a really tough time being able to get a newborn out of the low setting, unless she stood on a little stool.

I'm 5'2", and I raised the mattress for both babies. It's not a difficult job to raise/lower the crib mattresses. Perhaps you're much taller than I am, but in my personal experience the raised mattress is for BOTH mom and baby. I don't have to stretch and lean when I'm sore and not feeling good (I imagine it would feel even worse leaning down if it was a C-section birth), or am half asleep, in the dark......baby is comfortable and not going down so far (a few inches to us may feel like one of those dropping thrill rides at 6 Flags to them), head is properly supported, mommy is easier to see (remember newborn eyes can't see or focus far away), and the mobile, if you have one, can be enjoyed better when they can see it.

Our kids are 2 years and 10 days apart. We did NOT raise the mattress for our 2nd and it was fine for both hubby and I. But we are both tall - I'm 5'9 and he's 6'3.

We raised it up for number 2. I am short, so it was easier to put them in and out.
