My 5 year old daughter has been taking Augmentin for a week now due to an ear infection. She now has a minor yeast infection. Is there a home remedy I can use to treat this or do I need to get a prescription from her doctor?

Shaklee has a probiotic that is much better than the others. It guarantees delivery of the good bacteria. It is called Optiflora and you can find it at http://www.shaklee.net/healthforlife

My daughter also gets them durning swimming season, I put a little Monistat 7 on her but NOT inside with the applicator ; you can wipe it on her if some gets in that fine but do not insert it, Have her shower daily to keep the itching down and sleep with no underware to keep air on her privates. I know there are also prescriptions available so do ask your DR. FYI the Moinstat will give her about a min of saying it hurts, just fan it with a paper to cool the area down and she will be fine. Keep her in maybe a dress or nightgown, and plenty of liquids, make sure she is clean after having a BM this too also causes yeast infections on kids.

Any time she goes on an antibiotic, you also need to use a probiotic. The antibiotic kills ALL the bacteria in her body, both good and bad (which is why she probably got the yeast infection). The probiotic helps to replenish the good bacteria. Give her yogurt (which also has the good bacteria), unsweetened is best since yeast feed on sugar. Try to reduce the amount of sugar she is eating, at least while she has the yeast infection.

That happened to my daughter when she was two. We now don't do penicillin based medicines. My daughter told me to do Monistat 7 as well. Only the 7. Rub it on just like you would do diaper rash cream. You can get Walmart brand for $5 don't pay $10 for the name brand.

The problem with getting the probiotic from the yougurt is that by the time it makes it from the factory to your fridge, most of the good bacteria is already dead. Plus a lot of yogurts have a ton of added sugar. Sprouts carries a Baby-dophilus probiotic in powder if she won't take a probiotic capsule. You can mix it in juice and she will never know. I'm sure it can be found at most health stores. I think I paid about $8 for a jar that has lasted a very long time! Make sure you keep it in the fridge. The good bacteria will quickly die if not refrigerated.

try yogert and acedolpolus. These are good things for anytime a girl/woman is taking any antibiotic. but you may need to have a percription to get rid of this one.

Primal defense from Garden of Life. Antibiotics should always be followed by probiotics. Yogurt is helpful, but only has one strain, usually just lactobacillus.

Sugar and starch feeds yeast, so those should be kept to a minimum.

Another vote for porbiotics. Anything that comes in a capsule is fine, just open it up and mix the powder in with applesauce or a mashed banana. At our house we use Culturelle, essential 12 and Sacc. Boullardi. They are available at stores but are cheapest on vitacost.com. Any time you are on an antibiotic start probiotics right away and continue them for at least several weeks to a month after the antibiotic is gone.

Feed her yogurt any flavor one time or more a day & within 3-4 days it will be gone, but go ahead and have her eat it for at least 6-7 days. Hopefully she likes yogurt. This does work, I know.

My daughter has had yeast infections since she was a baby, she is now 10 years old. We have always been told to use the over the counter cream, mainly for the itching and burning. Her doctor also told us that you can use plain room temp yogurt and put it on the spot that are itchy. But if in doubt call and take to a nurse at the doctors office.

My daughter had the same problem when she was little, even as an infant. So I just went to the store and bought the store brand yeast infection cream. everytime I would change her diaper or as she got older go potty I just rubbed a little of it on her. With in a couple of days she was better. But just on the outside never inside! It seemed to work for her. Hope this helps.
