Curly Hair That Needs Help

to all those mom's out there with curly hair please help me. I used to have beautiful ringlet curls before I had my son. During pregnancy the prenatal vitamins did wonders for my hair. After my son was born I lost a ton of hair. I was pulling handfuls out everyday in the shower. I thought I was going to go bald. Now 8 months later my hair is growing back in but my beautiful curls are lacking the curl. Any suggestions on what I can do to help get my curls back. I'm on the verge of getting a perm, how ridiculous does that sound.

What can I do next?

Wait. Your hair will come back curly. Get a close cropped cut and as it grows out thick and lovely you'll see your old curls.
Been there split ends and funny hair and all.

Try "mixed chicks" leave in conditioner. It's not just for mixed chicks (LOL) it's for any curly hair. My daughter has curly hair that resembles a rat's nest most of the time! You put it in when your hair is damp and scrunch up you hair and it makes super soft perfect ringlets. I can only find it in certain salons, the easiest way to get it is online. Its about $20 a bottle but it lasts a very long time. We have had the bottle we are using now for almost a year. There is also a video on youtube that shows you how to use it and scrunch up your hair. You can go without washing your hair everyday, just get it wet again and the conditioner still works. It's amazing stuff. I don't use anything else on my daughters hair.
Also, I was losing alot of hair and it ended up being anemia. I know that's not what your question was for but you might want to have your iron checked. I started taking iron pills and within days the hair loss stopped.

you can still take prenatal vitamins when you're not pregnant, at least till your hair gets back to where you want it

Shampoo, condition, use I wide tooth comb, or brush
Apply hair gel using your fingers scrunch, upside down!
Hair grows 1/4 an inch a month. Pregnancy horomones
Can mess with changing curl configuration. It takes time
But always came back for me.

This happened to me after I had my daughter. I got a perm because only have my hair was curly (one side only) and I didn't feel like blowdrying and straightening it every day and didn't like always pulling it back. I think they have more "natural" perm solutions now that may be less harsh. I would ask your stylist or ask if she knows someone who does a lot of perms. My regular stylist didn't do perms so I went to another lady in the same salon.

My curls went away almost completely after the birth of my daughter who is now 2 1/2. For a while, I straightened it almost everyday. I agree with what Laeh G. said. Get your hair cut shorter than you are used to, and over time the curl will most likely come back. Mine did after I weaned my little girl. And it keeps getting curlier! :-)

Try switching your hair products and getting a trim - my hair went through a similar stage and switching products seem to have helped. Ulta has a great selection of products and if you don't care for them, can return for a refund. But trimming an inch can help get the 'bounce' back. Good luck!

Don't heat treat your hair! My hair is naturally very curly, but I flat ironed it almost every day for a couple of years and it became permanently straight! So I let it grow for a couple of months without flat ironing, then I cut off all the straight ends. Now it is growing back curlier than ever! Oh yeah, one more thing: I lost a ton of hair with each of my 10 pregnancies. It is alarming but completely normal:)
