Crib Tent Recall

I suggest that it's not necessary to stay current on recalls if you're following the directions for use of equipment and you're using common sense while using them. Think thru the product and what could go wrong.

This recall does not include all crib tents, in my understanding. Google the manufacturer of your tent to find out if it's been recalled and why it's been recalled if it has. The recall, if happened, may not indicate that the way you use the product is dangerous. I think it's law that they have to send out recall notices to purchasers. That's why it's important to fill out the product registration form.

I suggest that at your son's age it's time to consider how to make the apartment safe. Remember, he's outside the crib most of the day and has access to those areas. My granddaughter, at 3, left her apartment while I was doing dishes, and wandered to the lobby. I didn't hear her leave but quickly discovered her gone. Her parents put a device at the top of the door that prevented her opening the door.

I never understood the thing about those tents. Put a gate in his door and/or lock your apartment door - if need be install a chain or a simple fridge lock high up, that should keep him from escaping the apartment.

Take everything dangerous out of his room (or safely secure it) and use a baby gate at the door. We switched my daughter to a toddler bed at 18 months when we moved house and have never had a problem. Even now at 4 1/2 she can't open the gate (she shares a room with her 2 1/2 year old sister so we keep the gate up).

I stay on top of the info because I get all recalled items emailed to me from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. You can sign up through their website to have the emails sent to you. https://www.cpsc.gov/cpsclist.aspx I found out about the crib tents right when the recall announcement was made. Even though I had been using it for years I took it back to Walmart and they gave me a full refund for it. When the recall happened we had already been thinking about making the switch to the big girl bed and that's what we did and had no issues. So I don't know of any good alternatives.

I'd put this old of a child in a toddler bed if there was one available or a regular bed if not. Then put a gate up across his doorway. You can put a baby monitor in the hallway outside his door so you can hear if he's crying.

Put him in a bed and put a gate up!!!

I get major recalls emailed to me from babycenter.com, just have to sign up with them. Altho I can't say I pay much attention...I usually look at why it's recalled and determine if it even applies.
