I like the crib and bed outlet in lombard on Westmore/Meyers. They are very helpful, and may even give you a deal if you want more than one piece or a floor model.

Try Craig's List, www.craigslist.com. You can find a crib there that is gently used at a great price and will be better quality than Ikea's.

I have a friend who got 2 cribs from Ikea and she was happy with them. We have a changing table from there and that thing has taken a beating but is holding up really well! I've bought a lot of other furniture from Ikea and I've always been very very satisfied. Congrats on your pregnancy - I have two girls both born in March :)

Hello,
We have an Ikea crib for our daughter (now 1), and we love it because it's so simple and plain. It of course meets all safety standards, is sturdy, and has two different heights which were simple to adjust. It also converts to a toddler bed (at no extra charge), though we haven't tried that yet. I think it was $149 (I don't see the exact same one in their catalogs anymore), which was cheap enough to allow us to get a slightly nicer mattress than we otherwise would have. I would recommend it!
Hope that helps,
Jen

I went to Babies R Us and bought two matching floor models for my twins. I paid a $140 vs. $290, since they were out of the box. If you haggle they are usually pretty helpful. I've bought furniture from IKEA and was completely dissatisfied! If my dresser from IKEA fell apart, I wasn't about to take any chances with their cribs. Good luck and congrats!

L.,

I purchased my crib from babies r us. It is the classic Jenny Lind crib, which I love! I know Wal Mart carries the crib (Delta-Jenny Lind) for a relatively low price... The same crib retails at Land of Nod, for $100 more!

I am about to have my second baby and we just bought an Ikea crib. I can't really tell you what it's like to use one, but I will say that they seemed very sturdy in the store. Compared to some of the more expensive cribs at Babies R Us, the Ikea cribs seemed even sturdier. They do not have drop-sides, , which may be why they seem so sturdy (and by this, I mean that they do not wiggle when you move them). They are pretty low to the ground, which makes a lack of drop side feasible for me given that I am short.

We paid about 200.00 for our lifetime crib at Babies R Us, you really have to look around there, they have such a huge range of prices. The one we got was from a company called Jardin, and it turns to a toddler bed and a full size head and foot board, great value for 200.00

Not sure if this would be of any interest to you or not but I have a Childcraft "like new" bedroom set to sell. Includes crib that converts to a youth bed, 4 drawer dresser with changing table on top, 4 drawer chifforobe, twin headboard (honey oak finish). Write me back if interested.
