We were invited to a First Holy Communion celebration tomorrow. We are not catholic so I was wondering if any of you can give me suggestions on typical gifts?? The communion is for two 9 y.o. boys.

Would appreciate suggestions as I have no idea what is appropriate.

Thanks in advance!!

In NY cash is the typical gift. But I've given jewelry (you can buy stainless steel men's jewely which can be reasonably priced) like an ID bracelet or a chain with a cross. Or gift cards to a family activity (tickets to a minor league team that's local, go-cart place, amusement park, etc.

Good luck mama - this is a tough one!

About 50 to 75% of my sons' guests gave him cash and the other religious type gifts, rosaries, crosses.... My husband is Catholic and we've been to quite a few FHC.. We give $100 to those we are VERY close with.
$50.00 for the kinda close... and $25.00 for the not so close...

Money in a nice card. Often a godparent will give a religious themed gift, a watch, jewelry, etc., but otherwise money is appropriate and appreciated.

I had two invites on the same day and already had the day planned. I sent a card and a Cold Stone Ice Cream gift card.

I figured Ice Cream says celebrate...kid style.

I was told when giving a gift for a religious celebration outside of your own religion to give money. I suppose money cannot offend. Good luck.
