Wal-Mart hs nearly a whole row of infant toys in the toy department. Any of them would be fine. Also they have rows and rows of stuff in the infant department. Give him a tippy/sippy cup, his own dish set and flatware too, stacking toys, what about something from Babies R Us, soft books, bath books, now that he's sitting up better what about a bathtub ring where he can sit up, there are so many things that at 6 months he will be growing into soon.

My favorite web sites:

Check out the different catagories.

I get weekly/monthly emails that have developmental milestones and what to expect your child to start doing next. They also have a section close to the bottom on baby gifts during the first year.

My daughter turned six months around Christmas time. Her absolute favorite gift was a little tent http://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-Playskool-Lets-Together-Disc...
She played with that thing until we replaced it with a larger playhouse the next Christmas. Even then she would sneak it out of the closet until we finally put it into storage for the next baby.

I agree with the educational toys! When my daughter was 6 months, she got a Fisher-Price "little people" barn and loved it. She would happily play on a blanket on the floor with it for a long time.
Make it easy on yourself too, they don't care about quanity at this age! One or two items will do!!
Have a great holiday season!!

I might be biased but instilling a love of reading/books now will be the best gift you can give him forever!! :) You can check out Usborne Books at www.WeRaiseReaders.com

Go with educational toys for that age group. Stimulate his mind as much as possible right now! If you want to do keepsake items, get him a keepsake ornament. When I was young we all got a new ornament every year & my mom put our name and the year on it. She passed them on to me when I moved out and I have continued this tradition with my own family. It's very special.

I work with kids and one of the best toys I have ever seen for that age is the Tolo shape sorter. You can find it on amazon.com for sure. It looks like a barrel with 2 ends that sort 6 shapes. It's great for so many ages because a little baby can use the shapes as rattles (they shake and make different sounds). They also teach colors. You can also remove 1 of the ends of the barrel and he can have fun putting them in and out without having to sort them until he's bigger. It also rolls so he can chase it. I real winner! The iseeme books are also great keepsakes. You send them his name and birthday and they make a book all about him. My son LOVES his still and he's 4. Some kind of walker toy would be good too since he'll be walking in about 6 months.

This may sound bad, but he won't care and really won't know what's going on anyway, so I say get him whatever you want to get him!

One thing that might be nice is to find some kind of keepsake you can pass on to him when he's older and you can tell him that you got that for him when he was 6 months old. Could be a keepsake (picture frame, etc.), a piggy bank with a savings started... some kind of account started to save money for a car when he's 16... some kind of collectible...etc.

My son will also be 6 months the day after Christmas! My plan is to get him a play table and maybe a few outfits. His stocking stuffers will probably be some teething rings and some jars of baby food...lol! He will be starting to eat regular food about that time and he does not know the difference. I figured with the play table, then when he starts pulling up he will have something fun! The only reason I am getting him a few things is that I have a 3 year old whom is VERY observant and would notice if his little "bwoder" did not have Christmas presents. So we are mostly getting him things he will need and 1 toy. Like the others said...he will NOT have a clue what is going on! =)

Have you ever looked at Discovery Toys? We have a cute toy called the Play and Learn Snail that is baby's first puzzle. It's a medium size soft toy that comes apart into 7 pieces large enough for him to get both hands on chew, but small enough to fit in the diaper bag for easy travel. Go online at www.toycubby.com to see our snail and all the other toys we have for 6 month olds. Call me if you have any questions. ###-###-####
