I like to bring a plate of cookies when we go visiting at Christmas time, but I'm SO tired of bringing the sugar cookies, gingerbread men and other 'boring' Christmas staples. So what kind of new, off-beat or unique Christmas cookies do YOU make???

This is my list so far this year:
Peanut butter balls, nutmeg logs, peppermint bark, sugar cookies, fudge, chocolate peanut clusters. I have yet to make the peanut brittle (may not get done LOL). I rotate each year but always do the sugar cookies for my kids to decorate and the peppermint bark. Have to keep some kind of tradition!
Other cookies I've made in the past include:
Peanut butter - fill mini muffin tin 1/2 full of dough and lightly press a mini reese's pb cup into it and bake 8-10 min at 350 degrees. Let cool before lifting out of tin or the top will break off.
Sugar cookie (not the roll out dough) or peanut butter cookie - roll into 1" ball and place about 1 - 2" apart on cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 min at 350 degrees. Immediately when out of oven place a hershey's kiss into the center of the cookie. Let cool before removing from tray.

Sounds like you're getting some great ideas!

Why not make cupcakes instead? You could decorate them with seasonal color frosting (red or green) and in stores like Michaels you can buy christmas decorations for cakes like trees , or you could sprinkle some coloured sugar on the frosting.

I try to make different cookies every year, and find new recipes on the internet or in old cookbooks. Favorites get repeated as often as necessary! This year we made oatmeal-chocolate chip-sunflower cookies, lemon bars, 5-layer bars, rum balls, gingerbread (the kids love deorating them), pepper-spice cookies and peanut butter and jelly sandwich cookies. Remember that your Christmas cookies don't have to be "Christmas" cookies--any cookies are good!!

Funny you should ask! As I write this I have 8 dozen cookies sitting in my kitchen waiting to be passed out at a cookie exchange later today! I wanted to do something different, too, and found this super cute recipe here: http://heavenlyhomemakers.com/smells-like-christmas-cooki...
They're actually quite healthy, too, in case that's something you're looking for. If not, you can substitute 3/4 c. brown sugar for the honey and use white flour instead of whole wheat.
Happy Baking and Merry Christmas!

I just delivered cookies to neighbors today! Here's my recipes:

http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/chai-spiced-almond-ce... (I don't bother to roll in powdered sugar, they're better without)

http://candy.about.com/od/caramelrecipes/r/applecaramels.htm (start with 4 cups of apple cider and it'll take about 90 minutes or so to reduce so don't start the sugar syrup until at least 60 minutes in.)

http://www.delish.com/recipefinder/do-it-yourself-truffle... (I did a half batch and split it to make 1/2 chocolate rolled in cocoa powder and 1/2 peppermint rolled in crushed candy cane) These are rediculous easy!!

http://www.mangiabenepasta.com/pizzelle.html (I do the butter recipe, usually with vanilla or sometimes peppermint or lemon or almond)

This year I felt exactly the same... ugh the same old cookies. So I made Sugar Plums http://www.saveur.com/article/Recipes/Sugar-Plums . The adults LOVED them - kids not so much, my daughter liked them a little tho. But they were a welcomed change from the traditional cookie plate. Everyone knows the word suagr plum from the stories but most adults have no clue of what they really are.

I also made Hot Buttered Rum mix to give. You can find many different recipes - its basically just butter, brown sugar and spices.

Both recipes are nice because they are no bake.
