Car Seat Toys - Madison,AL

My daughter is almost 16 months old. She is in a forward facing car seat. She gets bored while in the car, especially on longer trips around town. I give her a toy or two when I put her in the car, but she will play with them for a minute or two, and then toss them on the seat beside her. Once she does that, she can't reach the toys. With no toys, she turns to her shoes! She will take off a shoe and the sock and toss them too. So, every time I take her somewhere (daycare, etc.) I am always having to put her shoes and socks back on when we get there!

What are some good toys that will attach to a forward facing car seat?? Don't they have something like a car steering wheel for them to play with? (You know, like Maggie from the Simpsons! lol) I have just looked at Toys R Us/Babies R Us and Wal-Mart's Web sites, but I can't find much for car seats for her age. Anybody know where I can find something? The steering wheel would be a great idea because she loves cars and loves to sit in the driver seat and play with the steering wheel. :)

What can I do next?

I'm going to keep checking this post as I'm hoping someone knows of some neat things like you're asking for! I'd love to get something similar for my son, who is two. ;)

My son will now keep some things with him and play on car rides, but also sometimes throws things down and then bugs me constantly to get them for him (which I can't do while driving).

I did put a basket next to his car seat (in the middle part of the car) and filled it with some toys. He can only reach the very top stuff, and sometimes that can get annoying (when he wants something in there out of his reach)! Ha ha!

I did find a little "caddy" that hooks on the side of a car seat ... you can view it at http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId.... It can hold some (small) items for children to occupy themselves with during rides. One Step Ahead has some neat (but sometimes expensive) items for little ones!

For a larger pouch to hold things, check out http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId.... And, they also have a table and footrest combo for car seats at http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId.... And, they also have just a tray (without footrest) that you can check out at http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId....

I'm not sure how I got my hands on their catalog a while back, but they always seem to have some unique and handy items for sale. You can search their Web site (www.onestepahead.com) for anything you might be looking for. Good luck!

When going on long car rides, which we happen to do a lot, we got my kids a DVD player for the car. They love it and it keeps them quiet the whole way!! It can be kinda expensive, we paid oh about 75-95 bucks for ours, but 8 hours of quiet in a car is well worth it!!Hope this helps!

p.s-We also found playing classical music or even if your not really into that, they now make musical lullabies (no words) of all kinds of bands like Pink Floyd, Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, even Metallica, etc...) puts them fast to sleep at night!

Good Luck!!~N. J.

all of that is very normal and I'm not sure there's much that can be done, they eventually stop doing that. My son is 15 months and I don't bother putting his shoes on until we get to where we are going...no sense in doing it twice if I can prevent it :-) Both my kids seemed to hang on to toys longer if it was something of mine or something I used such as a water bottle. Yeah, sounds corny, but it's like buying a present and they seem to get more joy out of the cardboard box it came in. So, my water bottle with a little water and the lid on tight or with rocks or marbles in it usually amuses him a bit longer, but those have been known to get thrown to the side too.

and this will sound REALLY corny, but the safe way I've gotten to keep toys attached to the seat is to use a bungie cord, not the straight one with the hooks on the ends. This one forms a circle and has a ball at the end. I hook a bunch of toys together then wrap it around the bungie and put the bungie around the harness of the carseat.

good luck

i had an awesom toy that attached to the head rest in front of the child's seat and i had the remote on my visor so that if he got a little fussy or something i could just hit and the toy would start going (making music and all) or the child could activate it - they have several out there like this now - i think i got my at target.
