Car Seat for 2-1/2 Yr Old???

we need another car seat and i'm not sure which one to get. we currently have two alpha omega elite seats (one for my volvo xc90 and one for my husband's suburban). we have been very pleased with both since my 2-1/2 year old transitioned out of his infant carrier. however, it's a bit large even in my husband's vehicle and very large in mine. my little guy's feet barely have room behind my seat and he's only getting bigger! the reason we need another seat is that my 6 month old is just about too big for his infant carrier and we need a "big boy seat". which seat is safe, relatively compact, easy to install, durable and perfect in every other way? cost is not really an issue since it's such an important purchase. should we get another convertible...should we look into boosters already and move the 2-1/2 yr old into that (he's perfectly content in his current seat w/5 point harness)? i'm so confused and don't want to regret my purchase! thanks in advice to all you wise mamas!!

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

I'd personally suggest sticking with the 5 point harness as long as possible. 2 1/2 is still pretty young. I have my 2 1/2 year old in a Britax Marathon in a Grand Am and he has a pretty good amount of space for his legs/feet.

Good luck!

My son just turned four and 45 inches tall. He has always been off the charts. We went to a booster with harness at 3 years old. There are a few.
Good luck.

I would suggest that you go with any Britax seat! Those are hands down the BEST seats on the market. I have 6 of them... I would suggest a Britax Boulevard for your younger child, it can go rear facing and then you can turn it around when you need to. I would NOT move a 2 year old into a booster, either get another Boulevard or a Regent. I still have my 5 year old in a 5 point harness! It doesn't bother him AT ALL as he and his little brother were in a horrid rollover accident going 80mph on an interstate, both secured in Britax Boulevards, both walked away LITERALLY without a scratch. Those 2 Boulevards had to go, so I replaced them with 1 Boulevard for my younger son and a Britax Regent for my older son. The Boulevard will probably last to about 5 years old, and the Regent will probably take my older son to 7 or 8 years old. Good luck!

Hi M.,
I am a local carseat technician and would be more than happy to help you figure out your carseat situation if you'd like! I'll send you a private message with my contact info.

Please please please don't move your son into a booster, boosters are for BIG kids (5+ years old, the older the better.) you want to keep a child harnessed as LONG as possible!
