Car Booster Seat Pillow or Something Similar . . .

Hello everyone,

My daughter has recently graduated to a Booster Seat in our car. She didn't have any trouble with the car seat she had before, if she fell asleep in the car. But now with the booster, if she does fall asleep, her head falls forward and she looks so uncomfortable. I'm afraid she might hurt her neck with all the bouncing around we do while driving in the car. The other day I pulled over five times to get out and adjust her.

I was wondering if any of you have found anything that helps with this problem. I've seen some long pillow-like things that you can put over the seatbelt, supposedly it's supposed to help, but I'm not sure if it would work. I figure before I went out and bought something that may not work, I would ask the moms here.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help. T. M.

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. I'm going to try a neck pillow backwards to see if that helps, otherwise, I'll have to think of something else.

We bought a neck pillow from Target...the trick is to wear it backwards. Wearing it correctly still allowed his head to slump forward, but wearing it backwards kept him more comfortable. My son will sleep fine if he has it on, otherwise he is bobbing all over the place. He won't put it on himself, he swears he doesn't need it, so we slide it on when he is either super drowsy or after he's asleep and then he doesn't fight it at all.

Does your daughter have a back on the booster? That works better for my daughter. She can still rest her head against the sides.

I'll have to try using a neck pillow backwards for my son. He's 8 and 4" away from needing a booster but does not have the back on the booster. The neck pillow isn't comfortable in the bench seat though.

If she's not mature enough to stay awake the whole trip, she shouldn't be in a booster seat. If she' falling asleep and flopping around, she's just not ready for a booster seat. Not only is it unsafe for her to be falling out of her seat, but even a quick stop could injure her if she's sleeping and falling out of her seat/bobbing. And you shouldn't use aftermarket products anyway.

Graco Nautilus ($150), Britax Regent ($150), Britax Frontier ($300), Evenflo Generations65 ($99) will all work for your child in a 5pt harness, which your child does obvoiusly need right now. Give it another year or two before moving to a booster.

Target carries a cute line of travel pillows (inflatable or bean stuffed ones) that are similar to those people use in air travel that support the neck like a doughnut. They have probably 4-5 different animals, and I've begun to see a lot more parents using them.

I'd also check out OneStepAhead.com as they tend to have really cool things for kids that no one else sells.

I am in the same situation. My daughter falls asleep and completely folds forward. I am concerned as well about her safety. When she was in the 5 point harness this issue never occured. The neck pillow forward facing keeps sliding down and she doesnt seem to be interested in resting her head to one side or the other of her car seat...just completely forward! There doesnt seem to be any products out there for this situation. I am thinking that the best thing might be some sort of large pillow she can keep in her lap that straps around the back of the seat at about chest level. This would keep her more upright and give her something to rest against without her head being in her lap! We travel out of state frequently and this is something I am going to have to investigate further. If anyone has any other suggestions... Please let me know!!

I remember that neck-snapping phase! On a trip to the beach O. year, I remember my mom holding my son's head for about 2 hours! LOL

I tried the thing that attaches to the seat belt and wouldn't want you to waste your money. I LOVE the idea about the neck pillow backwards! Too bad I never thought of that. The moms on here are SO smart! :-)
