I had a csection 11 weeks ago, and have a gorgeous little boy as proof. My scar is great, but I am still having aching around the site and my lower stomach. It hurts to jump or jog, is this normal? Occassionally I get sharp pains too.
Thank you

Hi! When I had my csection it ached for about 3 months. I have a couple of friends who said theres ached for almost a whole year so I think its pretty normal.

Congrats on the new baby. My pain from my c-section lasted a little less than 8 weeks. I would ask the doctor if it's normal. Best of luck!

Hi J.!

I had an emergency c-section for my son and I suffered with sharp pains for awhile too. I don't get them anymore...he's almost eight months. My scar does hurt sometimes and itches a lot too. I think over time these things will go away. But, my sister had her son over 5 years ago and she says she still gets the sharp pains. I guess everyone is different. Good luck and enjoy your precious baby boy!

Hello J.! Congrats on your little boy. I just wanted to let you know it takes time to heal. With my son (who will be 4 in july) I had a csection. I had staples then so no matter when I moved it hurt. It took awhile for the sharp pains to go away. They did though. Then in Feb 2008 I had my baby girl by csection. Stiches on hers. I had more pain with her because they used my first scar to cut through. It didn't take long to heal. Everyone is different. My scar itches alot and every once in awhile Ill get a sharp pain but nothing major. Just remember it takes time to heal after major surgery and if you have help use it. Get all the rest you can. If you need anything let me know. Get plenty of rest though. Sleep when your baby sleeps if you can. Like I said if you need anything let me know and Ill help you if I can. Congrats again.

My c section scar didn't really bother me until I was about 10-12 weeks post partum. I had to start taking my pain pills then. I didn't understand that either. I think the pains are from your body readjusting itself. Just know that it is normal. (I am fine now!)

Definitely normal. Anyone that tells you it takes 6 weeks to recoup. fully is extraordinary! I was 35 when baby 2 came along and I'm in excellent health, petite and it still took me the better part of 9 -12 months to feel "well" in the surgical area. Actually, if I exercise a bunch with abs. I am sore in the incision area again. Oh well ... the pains of motherhood are worth it, but still a little frustrating since we definitely want no pain! Congratulations on your new baby!

C sections have become so common place that people sometimes forget, you just had MAJOR surgery 11 weeks ago. Your muscles take time to heal, some discomfort is normal. It's kinda like the old joke that goes "Doc it hurts when I do this. And the Dr says, well then don't do that." If you only have discomfort when you jump or jog you may need to wait a couple more weeks before jumping and jogging. Try some more low impact exercise. Getting back in shape after a baby can be completely thwarted by an injury if you push too hard too fast. Congratulations on your little joy.

Yes it is normal. After my daughter, the doctor told me it would be 6 months or more before my body completely healed from the surgery. You should not do anything that causes pain for a few more months and rest often to help your body heal. If the sharp pains go deep inside, talk to your doctor. If they are just surface pains on the skin, its because of the nerves that were cut during surgery. My DD is almost 4 and I still have them every so often. Eventually you will be able to do all your normal activities without any problems. Until then, enjoy relaxing with your little man.

I had a c-section in Nov 08- and I still have a twinge now and then (mostly muscular and when I really strain my abs). I think 11 weeks it is very normal to still feel some pain, or at least some tenderness, but I might go ahead and call your OB's office if i were you and just ask if what you are feeling is out of the ordinary- a nurse will probably call you back to ask you a few questions and will help determine if what you are feeling is within the scope of "normal" post c-section expectations or not. Congratulations on your baby boy!!

I'm 15 months out from mine and still get sore feelings when I exercise and still have twinges of pain... could be scar tissue, too. You need to take it easy, still. I am going next week to get a Mayan abdominal massage - it is said to have great results breaking up scar tissue and adhesions. You might check with a provider at www.arvigomassage.com (practicioner listing) and see how soon they suggest getting it done! I am traveling 2 hours to the closest one to me... HUGS in your recovery and congrats on that sweet boy!

I had my c section in '05 and to be honest, it took a few months before it pain completely stopped. Then the numbness around the skin area took even longer. If you think about it, they cut through all your abdomen muscles. Muscle repair takes a long time, especially when its in an area that is constantly used. Give it a few more months, it is a lot of tissue repair, and be easy with the area.

It is normal. My little girl was born 6 1/2 months ago by section and I still have a little pain every now and again. I am in the service and they give us six months to do our run. I would talk to your doctor about running or jogging as you may cause yourself more pain.

A c-sec is a MAJOR abdominal surgery. You are supposed to avoid major activity for 12 weeks after. If you have been jumping and jogging chances are you have damaged the repair work your doctor did on you. You should call your OB.

J.,

I have had three c-sections. Stop and think about what that intails. You have been literally cut open on so many levels to remove your fabulous baby. And I agree wholeheartedly, they are fabulous babies. It will take approximately one whole year for your body to completely heal. Eleven weeks is just the beginning. Take is slowly and build up to where you were physically before you even got pregnant. Your body has been through alot. Give yourself a chance to heal. It took nine months to develop the baby. Give yourself at least that much to heal. I am not saying don't, I'm just saying slow. Enjoy your new joy. They are worth it.

I had a C-section 11 weeks ago, too! My second. Overall I feel great but I still sometimes feel a pull on my incision site, where it healed slowest. If you're concerned about anything, talk with your OB and make sure everything is physically fine with you. Remember, though, that a c-section is major surgery, and it cuts through a lot of muscles and so on and so your body will never be the same again. :-Z Congratulations!! Boys are the greatest!
