Bronchitis/bloody Sputum

Has anyone else ever had bloody sputum with bronchitis? I have had bronchitis several times before, but never had this happen. I called the doctor and he said unless I had been exposed to TB it was probably nothing to worry about, but it makes me nervous!

What can I do next?

I've never had bloody sputum with bronchitis (which I get 1-2 times a year), but you can get that with pneumonia. If you're coughing/congestion is worsening, I would go back to the doctor. I was on antibiotics/steroids for bronchitis a couple of years ago and still developed pneumonia.

Pneumonia.

You should go to the Doctor or ER and get checked out.

I had that once, and I had had BAD bronchitis, then pneumonia symptoms emerging.

Or,maybe you are coughing real hard?
Regardless, it could be an indication that the Bronchitis is getting worse.

See a Doctor,
All the best,
Susan

I have had bronchitis a number of times (about once a year) and have had a little blood in the morning cough a few of those times without it being anything more serious. Just FYI, I have found acupuncture and Chinese herbs to work much better than anything the doctors gave me for it. Hope you feel better soon!!!

I have had bronchitis many times but one time, I too, had bloody sputum. I called my doctor and he said that sometimes with severe coughing, blood vessels can rupture causing blood to appear in your sputum. I was already being treated with antibiotics and steroids though. I would insist on seeing the doctor if it lasts for more than a couple days. It freaked me out too! Hope you feel better soon.

I can't imagine a doctor saying it's probably nothing! I would go have that checked out asap.

How would you necessarily know if you've been exposed to TB? IMO, blood requires closer inspection.

Good luck!

Yes. When I have coughed excessively, it has abraided the linings and caused it to bleed.

I've had that before. As long as you are on antibiotics and your other symptoms are not worsening, I wouldn't worry about it.
