Breast to Bottle - Novi,MI

Best bet is to get several different kinds (don't "stock up" on any, just one of each) and see if there is one your little one takes to more so than the others. My 2nd didn't take to the same kind that my first did, and it took me a bit to figure out to try something else... :)

ETA: I forgot that with my 2nd I also had to warm the bm up to slightly warmer than I thought it should be.

Most babies wil take a bottle better if mom isn't there! get a couple of different types of bottles for Dad or the Grandparents to try then LEAVE for a few hours...

Difficult babies seem to fall into two camps-- they either want the bottle to be as MUCH as possible like the breast (held in a similair position, maybe wrapped in a tshirt that smells like you, and milk at exactly the right temp) or they get mad if you try to "fool" them and prefer if you make it as DIFFERENT as possible (hold baby in a position that's totally different, etc)

We found big flat nipples for the bottles, since our nipples smash flat when they pull them into their mouths.

Somewhere around 12 weeks they go from "hey something is in my mouth, I will suck on it" to "I'm going to be picky". The LC I talked to in the back to work class said to keep trying, it was normal. You may also find that it's you or that it's the type of nipple. My DD was simple - she liked the Medela wides. But other babies might like Tommee Tippee or Avent or Playtex. I'd try a few and try having someone other than you feed her. My DD had me worried at first, but she did take it. She just preferred me.

Just this week started babysitting my breasted granddaughter. DIL started a month before. Every nipple every bottle known to mankind. Not so happy with any. Would take a bit but no more than half ounce. Well Monday ammo goes back to work. Took coaxing, singing the ABCs walking with her to get her to drink a little. Tuesday bad day . We'd. Much better. Today drank like a pro. If she gets very hungry she gets frantic so the trick is to get her before she is really hungry. She does not take a lot at any one time. I get in 8 oz between 8 to 3. Then DIL home at 4:30 to nurse her.
I learned to put her in bouncy seat to feed, or laying on changing table, anywhere but in my arms. The winning bottle nipple is the Playtex latex (brown) nipple. I was worried because she is such a happy baby n did not want her to be upset. I am a stickler for routine in the a.m. Afternoon we are out and wing it. She has quickly fallen into a good routine which helps too. Now the weekend is coming. I asked my DIL to at least for now to try to follow my routine. Mid she does not Monday will be a nightmare. She said she had planned on that. I read 200 blog entries on breast to bottle.
It just takes time and consistency. All the entries were positive I that no one ever starved. The funniest was the baby that would only take a bottle I. The car lol. They are funny little creatures. Message me if you need any more suggestions or support. Good luck.

Both of my boys had same issue and it really took a couple of months to really master using a bottle. One thing that helped was feeding them while they sat in one of those bouncy chairs and someone held the bottle. When they would be "cradled" in someones arms they would turn and "root" looking for the breast....lol even to my husband :) I used Avent bottles, stick with what bottles you have, your little one will figure it out. Sarah C. has great suggestions. I have found that breast fed babies like the milk to be very warm.
