Hello,
My daughter is 33 months and I've grown concerned cause she is having a hard time with bowel movements. When she does go, they are usually balls which I'm sure hurts her so I'm thinking maybe she is trying to hold back from going because of it. We try to give more fruits and vegetables but it doesn't really seem to help. We have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to discuss since I'm worried. She has gone a couple of weeks without going and that can't be good for you. Has anyone else's little one experienced something similair, what was your outcome?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So the doctor did suggest the Miralax to give to my daughter daily. As well as prune juice mixed with some apple juice. She does drink alot of water too but I sure hope the Miralax does help her. I'm just worried about her having to take that every day. Don't want her to get used to having to take something in order to have a pain free bowel movement but for now it will have to do :)

You will likely be told to put her on Miralax and DO IT!!! Constipation issues are very common for young kids and miralax helps them go and makes it more comfortable. Also cut back on dairy and give her pear juice.

She has not pooped for a couple weeks??? Ok, that is serious. Fruits like bananas and sometimes apples can be very constipating. Does she get prunes? Whenever I give my son a banana he has to have probiotics as well. You can buy them anywhere and spinkle some in her water or juice. This is serious and can contribute to physical and psychologial issues.

My grandson was chronically constipated at this age. He was given Miralax and a high fiber diet with no diary products. This helped some but didn't completely get rid of it. He did outgrow constipation when he was around 5.

Is she potty trained? My son is fully trained when it comes to pee, but he really resists pooping on the toilet. I would take all the dietary suggestions but also consider if letting her poop in a diaper until you can get her to feel comfortable on the toilet. My son would hold his poop forever if I didn't give him a diaper!
Good luck.

Ditto on the Miralax. Our 4y/o has constipation issues (they were worse a year ago) and his pediatrician told us to start him on a Miralax regimen. Miralax is not a laxative per se, but it helps soften the poop and makes it easier to go. We give it to him daily. Also, drinking water is extremely important. Half their body weight in ounces, for example 100lbs = 50oz. More if they sweat a lot or are extremely active. Best of luck to you!

I'd suggest adding some pear juice to her diet. Eliminating processed carbs (no white flour, bread, pasta, rice, etc...) and replacing with whole grains (ww flour, ww bread, ww pasta, brown rice, etc...). Be sure that she is drinking lots of water.

If all of this doesn't help, try eliminating dairy - that often makes people have GI issues - along with the above suggestions.

Best wishes!
