So What Happened?

Thanks for your input and ideas. I have used Evite before and it is good, however, I don't know some of the email addresses.

I sent out an email on the day the RSVP was due to the ones I had not heard from. I still didn't get responses from everyone, but got a lot more. I think email tends to get a more instant response from people...they respond and then don't have to think about it anymore! I'm not sure what the official etiquette was, but I'm still friendly with most of those moms, so I don't think I offended anyone!

I have worked in the bridal industry off and on for awhile, so the $600 price quote, although a tad high, is not off the chart. I paid over $400 5 years ago for a 4 hr timeblock. Look in some of the free bridal books available everywhere as there are a bunch of different DJs out there. If they're part of one of the wedding guilds, even better. There's a bit of quality control there, especially with 'common services' like DJ's & florists. I liked BeDazzled (I think it may be called BeDazzled Entertainment) personally (the owner himself did our wedding, but he has various DJs that he can tailor to the taste of the client).
As far as the RSVP thing goes, I've seen that as time goes on, less and less attention is paid to common courtesies such as this, and it's quite annoying. You plan a party and nobody shows up, or everybody and their dog shows up and you are understaffed and/or charged a high price for last minute add ons (or you just can't accommodate them-the space is only so big). Don't know what to tell you there, I have the same frustration with the events I plan.
Best of luck to you.

TSF F,

Hello. Wow-you go way out for your parties. If people don't RSVP to such an outstanding event, I would not hesitate to call them to verify.

What's MLM?

Hi, My son-in-law has a DJ/Karaoke Business. E-mail me at ____@____.com for his info. I am sure he will be more reasonable for your needs.

Maybe you could turn it into a "ticket" event. You could create some sort of cute ticket to get into the party where they exchange it for a "FREE" drink upon arrival....good for admission and one FREE mocktail or shakes or whatever you come up with.

Or you could use that ticket as a raffle ticket. Those who do RSVP would get their name in a drawing for a new DVD at the end of the party.

As soon as they RSVP, your daughter could deliver the ticket to the attendee. She could do this before school breaks for the holidays. And they could talk it up amongst themselves as an event not to miss.

I would never turn away a guest without a 'ticket' but it might be a fun way to get them to respond.

Good Luck!

use evite as a follow-up way for everyone to rsvp. works wonders! and then you only have to call those who don't read email or simply ignore your evite. good luck!

OK MOMS!!! this RSVP thing is one of my biggest pet peeves. PLEASE RSVP. If you get an invite let us know if you are comming or not. I have had this problem as well with 3 boys, lots of parties and events each year and people are to rude to reply.

what I do is I started useing www.EVITE.com as well as sending a paper invitation. this way those who are too lazy or busy to call can email their reply. It also lets you send updates and reminders...Evite is a free service!

if I still have not heard from people about 4-7 days prior to party I call them on the phone and see if they are comming.

You could also include a prestamped post card in their invitation with reply information they can check and just drop in the mail.

I hope this info helps I know how frustrating it is to try to plan a party and people dont reply.

Good luck, A. J
