Bathing Together

Just curious if anyone out there is having this problem. My son thoroughly enjoys bath time and is too big to be bathed in the infant tub that attaches in the sink. He can sit up on his own and loves to splash and play in the bath, the only problem is that I would love to be able to get in the bath with him. We have the glass shower doors on our bath which makes it impossible to sit on the edge of the bath, but if you put an entire infant tub in the bath there isn't room for 2. I would love a cushioned bath seat that protected my little guy but still left room for me. Am I alone in this issue?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, thank goodness for a wonderful husband...because of the doors on the shower I wasn't able to sit on the edge of the tub, so we used that as an excellent excuse to remodel the bathroom and now I not only have a beautiful new bathroom but I can comfortably bath little Jack!

Please bath with your baby. It is a great thing to do together when they are so young. It can be a pain to do every time, but I did it with both of my boys. Keep in mind babies, even toddlers, sometimes poop in the bath. Anyway, you will know when your son is getting too old for you to bath with him, but enjoy this sweet baby time. I never got one of the cushioned seats. Instead, I just used a towel in the tub. It worked fine and I saved money on something that I would have used for just a little while. Have fun.

J.,
I don't believe there is any thing wrong with taking a bath with your son. My sister has four boys and she would share the bath with them all the time. I believe when they get old enough to ask questions, then it time to stop. Enjoy your time you can share like this with your son. There priceless....

If your son is sitting up on his own, you shouldn't need another baby tub. If you are in with him you can help him stay sitting up. When you go to get out just make sure you have everything you need for yourself and him. I would drain most of the water so he still has some to play with so you can get dried off before getting him out. They also make a sitting up seat that goes in the bathtub to help him stay sitting up. Bathtime is always a great way to play with kids and get clean at the same time.

I used to have a glass enclosure on my tub/shower. I removed it before I was pregnant because I knew it would be almost impossible to bathe a child with it.

My son uses the bath seat that attaches to the side of the tub. He LOVES it. (Also something you can't use with the glass doors).

I think you'd be okay to bathe with him. When he gets a little bit older and is 'curious', (around 2 maybe?) then you should probably stop the co-ed bath times.

I didn't have very good luck with the bath seats when my daughter was little. It didn't stay suctioned to the bottom so she'd move around too much and tip.

I did get (at Babies R Us I think) a 'raft' type of bathtub for babies who can sit up on their own. It's an inflatable tub that's more their size, and it fits in the main bathtub, so it's easy to fill and dump out. And since it's smaller you don't have to waste filling up all of the bathtub for a small child.

The tub allowed her to move around and feel comfortable because it was more her size...we used it until she couldn't stretch her legs out in it anymore.

Good luck!

I used a small square laundry basket for my sons. They both loved it they could play and move around but still be contained more then having the whole tub. If you check out walmart they have small aquare ones. good Luck, I hope this works for you as it did us.

I think it's great that you bathe with your son... what a great memory!

You've gotten some great advice and ideas. Mine is to mention the Bumbo, which is about $40 at Babies R Us, but serves multiple purposes... you can use it as a cushioned bath seat, in a kiddie pool, or just to sit your little guy when you have things to do (cooking, laundry, etc.).

Have fun!

I have actually bathed with my son. I think I did it twice when he was a baby. I did not use his infant tub. I just ran the water to suit him and put him in there with me. He was a little slippery towards the end so I had my husband come to get him out and dry him off while I did the same for me. If you don't feel too uncomfortable you can try that.

You may want to try a little seat for your son. There is holes for his legs and most have suctions at the bottom to stick to the tub. They do not take up much room so there would be enough room for your to get in the tub with him.

Here is a link to what they look like from Babies R Us.

Hope this helps!!

J., Have you tried using a bath seat? I used one with my daughter. Your son could sit in it and still reach the water to splash! I used to get in the bath with my daughter when she sat in hers. it is a very tight squeese if you are wanting to wash your hair in the tub. If you wanted to wash your hair, you can put him in the bath seat and fill up the bath tub and then start the shower and direct the water away from him. I also did this with my daughter and now that she is big enough to be in the tub without a seat, I still put the bath water in for her and start the shower for me at the same time. Its a great way to save time and get your child to like showers!

If you go to Toy R Us , they have bath rings. They sit in them and there is room for two. They are around $19 or so. I have used on for all three of my children. Take Care and good luck.

my daughter is about to turn one and our daily bathtime together is my favorite. I never had anything in the water but me and her and it worked. When she was really small and couldn't sit up she'd lay on my legs (there wasn't TOO much water in the tub) as someone already said as they can sit up you can help make it easier I usually keep her in between my knees. I don't take MY bath until my husband comes and gets her out so that way I'm not needing to move at all.
