Hi, we're expecting number two in a week and I was thinking that a baby sling might be a helpful thing to have this time around. Can anyone recommend a brand that's comfortable and durable? My dad and step-mom would like to get this as a gift so I'm also looking for one that's not outrageously priced. Thanks!

I love my Moby wrap! It is comfortable, easy to use and around $35-$40. It looks a little intimidating because it is just one big, long piece of fabric -but it really is very simple. I tried several slings, including Hotslings, the Maya wrap and a Bijorn. The Moby Wrap is the easiest on my back and the most versatile that I have found.

I use the Ultimate Baby Wrap, which I found at BabiesRUs.com for $39.99. I tried about 20 different kinds of wraps, slings, and backpack carriers, and this was my favorite. It only comes in 2 colors, and isn't very pretty, but it is so comfortable. It has GREAT head and neck support for the baby, because you tuck the baby's head into it, and baby is held tightly and securely to your chest. It also provides excellent back support for you. I do everything with her strapped in, and never worry that she will jiggle too much or fall out. I can even pick up my 19mo son, and play with him at the park, and do laundry because even if I bend over at the waist she's secure. Its adjustable, and there are a few ways to use it so that it can be used for a long time. Congrats on your second.

I have a Hotsling for my son and he loves it. Not only do the come is a lot of different colors, but it is easy to use, washable and comfortable. You can cradle your baby, have him forward facing, on the hip and even on your back( which I have not tried). It keeps you baby close to you and warm while your hands are free. I don't know what I would do without it. Hope this helps.
I had to go to the Hotsling website and walk down memeory lane! I had a hotsling---my son lived in it from birth to 8 months at least. Loved it to say the least! I also had one like the Maya wrap, it was an Australian company, and that actually felt really nice on the back once he got older and could be forward facing. Best of luck!
I liked "newnative baby carrier" newnative.com for early months and one year old stages and baby bjorn for 3-9 months. There are so many choices now. Amazing.
For the first 2-3 months, I used the MOBY WRAP *all the time*. Totally snug in there -- and I could do anything!
After my baby could hold her head up and look around more, I started switching to a NEW NATIVE knock-off (that I made!) ;-) easy to pack, easy to use.
But for long times of holding the baby (up to like 15 months old) -- for walks or whatever -- I *love* my ERGO (buy online). SO comfy, and I like that the baby isn't dangling from his/her crotch, they're actually sitting on their bottom, as if you were holding them with your arm.

I don't remember how much I paid but my son lived in his sling for the first 3 months of his life it seems. It was one of the best ways to calm him down and get him to fall asleep. I have a Hotsling and a New Native Baby Sling. They are both pretty much the same style but I think the New Native one has a bigger pouch. It doesn't have any padding though, I liked that about the hotsling when my son was tiny.
Keep in mind that you might want to go and try on the one you want or make sure they get it from a store where you can exchange it because both are sized for your body.
I'm not sure where you're located but Be By Baby in the City helped me figure out my size and how to get the baby in and out. They actually have free classes on the different carry styles too. Good luck with #2 and the move.
