Anyone Know Where to Get Preservative Free H1N1 Vaccine for Children over 3? - Oswego,IL

I do not think it is correct that the counties have preservative free for over three. They are saving those few vaccines for children under three and pregnant woman. The reason the majority has the preservative is that in order to get the vaccine in everyones hands as quickly as possible they are packaging them in multi-dose vials and a nurse has to pull the dose into a syringe. In order to keep the vaccine germ free it needs the small preservative. I was concerned also, however I read many what seemed to be good logical fact based articles and the amount of mecury is so minute it doesn't even read.

My son has asthma and I decided the two shots were worth the risk verses a very nasty flu bug that has landed children in the hospital.

Considering how many vaccines these kids get, I agree just to be extra cautious to leave the mercury out...but in this instance it wasn't feasible to get such a huge amount out so quickly.

Hi - I'm not sure if it is preservative free or not so you will need to call. A Walgreens in Downers Grove had H1N1 clinics on Thursday and Friday of last week and had 300 vaccines per day. The Walgreens at Rt. 30 & 135th St. in Plainfield and the Walgreens at Larkin & Ingalls in Joliet both had H1N1 clinics last Friday afternoon. They each only received 100 vaccines. The clinics in Plainfield & Joliet were not advertised as they did not know they were getting the vaccine. Their plan was to have the Take Care clinics in their stores give any leftover vaccines over the weekend and then have a clinic again yesterday if there were any left. I know the pharmacists at Walgreens are only able to give vaccines down to a certain age - I think it might be 8 so your boys will have to get vaccinated at Take Care. There are other Walgreens in the area that are being told to expect the vaccine in December. For now they are only giving to the priority groups so no shots for healthy adults who are not caregivers. I would just keep checking in with your local Walgreens. Good Luck!

I don't have an answer to your question, but I did want you to know that the amount of mercury in the vaccine is less than the amount of mercury in a can of tuna. Not sure if that helps, but it gave me a good sense of perspective when I made the decision.
