Anyone Have Experience with Sudden Torticollis?

My 11 month started tilting his head and turning to the right like he had a stiff neck. No ear infection or teething. He just started PT. I find it really weird that it suddenly started end of January.

What can I do next?

I was born with it and didn't receive proper PT until I was 41. I lived with what I thought was normal neck pain. I thought everyone's neck hurts when they turn their head. I'm so glad you are getting PT for your little one. Method for treating torticollis 42 years ago was to strap me down in my crib on my stomach with my head turned to side with tight muscle with a sandbag placed on top to weigh it down. Glad times have changed.

what does the dr say about it? the only child i knew with it was an infant in daycare, pt came to him. but i met the child at 9 month old and he already had it, and was already being treated. i would talk with the pedi to see how common this is

If you are having PT done with him that could help. I had to look up what that was. I personally would find a chiropractor that specializes in peds to check him out. I know mine works with lots of infants and toddlers and has done amazing things to help them.

why is it weird that it started then?

it would have been less weird if it had started at the beginning of january?

if he's in PT, what did the therapist say? how about your pediatrician?

Yup.

We had this with one of ours. Apparently it was there in utero but it came out later.
Had to do with how we had him sitting, and how he slept.

We were always putting him to sleep one way in his crib. I also fed him a certain way. I kind of naturally put him how he looked most comfortable.

So it worsened to the point where it was then 'noticeable'.

PT helped but mostly, it was strengthening his neck muscles the other way - where they were weak. So I had to always position his chair the opposite way so he'd have to turn his head to look for us. I had to flip his position in the crib (so head where his feet had been) and that sort of thing.

You can PM me for more ideas etc. if you need them but the PT will probably have all that info for you.

* I should add, ours was detected much younger than 11 months. I'm guessing probably more 4 months. He wasn't sitting 'up' completely by himself. So he was resting and looking one way that he favored and one side just got weaker.
