My dream vacation city that I've been wanting to go to for years now is Ashville. My husband told me that in 2011 we will take a family there. Wow! I am so very happy right now. When is the best time to go? We want to avoid hurricaine season and don't want it to be too cold either. Also any must see places, attractions or resturaunts when we are there? My husband loves the ocean so we will also be spending at least one day in some other city.

What can I do next?

Our extended family lives there, and we took a trip just last year with our two year old. There is so much fun stuff outside to do...national forests, waterfalls, mountains you can climb. We went to Pisgah National Forest where there is Looking Glass Falls, it was absolutely beautiful. There was even a little visitors center with activities for kids, and you can go on a hike to a train car I believe. We had a 2, 3, and 4 year old and they all had a blast. There are also a lot of festivals around there, such as an Apple Festival and things like that you can look into. I believe it's in downtown Asheville on Friday nights that they have a drum circle, it was a pretty amazing thing to see. We've never seen anything like it, and it kept the kids amused for awhile. If you want anymore specifics, or info just private message me and I will be glad to help or ask my family too.

September/October is a wonderful time of year to go to Asheville. I highly recommend the Biltmore Estate- it is an amazing estate that you can tour and walk the grounds. I believe it has a restaurant and a winery there as well. I know we went in September and they had a Michelmas Celebration going on and all these exhibits and tents set up in one of the gardens. It was a lot of fun.

If you want to see the fall leaves on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Sept-Oct is usually good. Biltmore is great, their Christmas decorations are really nice and I want to say the gardens are really pretty in spring. I'm sure they have a website to tell you all of the festivals and celebrations they have there. Just want to make sure you are talking about Ashville in the mountains, since you mentioned the beach and hurricanes, and the beach is about 6 hours from Ashville. Hurricanes aren't really going to affect the weather there. I grew up in Greensboro, 4 hours from the coast and we might get rain or a storm from hurricanes that were a direct hit on the coast, but that was about it.

Have fun planning you vacation!

best times to go would be around may-june or september-october. the weather is nice enough for the beach (the water is a little chilly but its not quite cold) and its great weather for going out around ashville. otherwise its just too hot. As far as must see places and everything, i dont know much about that but i lived in nc for 12 years so i know all about the weather
