My 8-month old son HATES the bath. He used to be ok and for whatever reason (nothing has changed), he has been SCREAMING every time I give him a bath. He gets so upset, I don't know what to do. Any suggstions? Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the ideas, which are now so obvious to me! Since he is no longer urinating in the tub, I decided to put him in with his brother. This has worked out great. They have a blast and it makes the bathing process go quicker too!

Totally normal. It will pass. My daughter was around 8 months when she did the same thing. I thought something happened to her that I didn't know about and it freaked me out. I got in the tub a couple times with her and went from playing quietly with toy to being silly and it she calmed. It passed in a week or so and never returned. My son is 12 months now and still hasn't done this - maybe because he's in the tub with my daughter all the time?

Not sure if it's too late to begin this - but we warm the bathroom up before we put our 9-month in the tub. We simply turn the shower on, close the door and leave the room for just a few minutes. This way the bathroom is a little bit steamy when he goes in the water. This may not solve anything - but it helped our son to LOVE tubby time!!

Have you tried taking a bath together. bring the baby in the tub with you to show it is OK. My husband and son did that to show are son it was ok to have the water fall on his face.

My husband doesn't like baths either. Must be a man thing. Anyway, how about taking him into the shower with you for a bit? Or perhaps sitting in the tub for awhile together. I don't think that should cause any emotional harm at this early age. I remember the wiggling, screaming moments where I was sweating, wet and just about ready to lose my mind. In the case of my dog I can tie her up with a leash and the only repercussion is the shaking after she gets wet. In the baby case, chin up, maintain your sense of humor and experiment until something else works. There's always the usual drivel,is the water too cold, too hot, too wet? It's tough when they don't use words and have to scream. You'll be fine it just takes experimenting.
