4 Year Old Twins First Time on a Plane!!

ETA: okay, so let your Husband/the friend, deal with your older boys. And YOU... handle the infant.
And, you ALL talk about this, BEFORE you go on your trip. SO that, Husband is full aware... of his plane/trip duties with the kids. Otherwise, you will likely be the one doing everything. And make sure, Husband knows he has to help. Not just socialize with friend and/or just sleep on the plane ride leaving you with 2 full-awake active fussy 4 year olds.

I hope, you will ALSO have some other adult... going with you on the plane and on that trip.
Your arms will be full carrying stuff. And with a baby and baby stuff and nursing baby etc.

My friend, has a daughter with twins. And an older child. SHE... is flying to where her daughter is, and then, accompanying her daughter and her THREE kids... to their trip's destination. Then, it will be a vacation for all of them. Then she will fly back with them all, and then go back home herself.
There is no way, her daughter can, by herself, do all of that.

You will be taking a week old baby on a 10 hour plane ride!!!! What happens if you deliver on June 27. Sorry I am just floored by this. Somehow I I get the feeling you won't be going anywhere. I am not a germophobe by any sense, but a baby a week old or less on a germ infested plane? I know I would not do it. However, if you do go thru with this, take lots of activities and snacks.

portable DVD player, Leapster or DS, dollar store prizes (a lot of them, and pull out one new one every hour or so), new kid apps on your phones/iPad/whatever electronics you have, coloring books, sticker books. Don't forget food and sippy cups. The flight attendents will fill the sippy cups with juice or water if you ask, but it's unlikely that there will be any food that the kids will like on board. Plan to take a lot of food - snacks as well as PB&J sandwiches or something like that if your kids like them.

For the baby, feed (bottle or nurse) during takeoff and landing to pop her ears. Some people say a pacifier, but babies often suck but don't swallow with a paci, and you need her to swallow to pop the ears. I really liked baby-wearing on planes, because the baby would sleep on my chest hands-free (moby wrap for a newborn), so I could help out the older child without waking the baby. And I could use the fabric to cover up for extra privacy for nursing.

Also take a full change of clothes on the plane for everyone, including you, so that when one of your kids accidentally knocks your drink over and soaks you and him, you have something to change into.

Get everyone his/her own seat for optimum comfort for everyone!

Make it an adventure, especially for the 4 yr olds. They are old enough to get the gist of adventure.

Oh wow. You had better buy trip insurance for this flight. You may end up delivering late and won't be able to fly. OR the airline might take one look at you and tell you that you cannot get on their plane. I wouldn't let you fly a 10 hour flight on my plane if I were them. You're cutting this too close.

Even if the baby does come on time, do you really want to expose your brand new baby to all the people on that plane? They all have germs and the air quality is not good for a newborn.

I hope you re-think this...

If you can't get on the plane, will the rest of your party still fly? Or will you all just stay home? If you need to fly to where you want to give birth, you need to leave now. But still, the airline may not let you on the plane...

I doubt seriously you're going to be able to do this, but for the boys, pack two little backpacks with snacks and little hand-held things that they like. I would give them Benedryl a week or so beforehand to see if it makes them sleepy. (Check with the doctor or pharmacist for dosage per your child's weight and age.) Sometimes Benedryl makes children hyper, which is why you need to know before you use it on a plane. If your children sleep some, it's good for them as well as for everyone around them. You also need to let the airline know in advance that you want two children's menus. They will bring the food to the kids first as well.

suckers (a little candy on a stick can go a long way. Get ones that aren't easily chewed, but have to be licked)
dollar store toys. lots and lots of new junk toys. let them have a new one every hour or so.

Have each boy roll a small carry on to the plane packed with surprises in it that they can't open until the plane takes off. Buy a few new books, stickers,crayons,slinky, finger puppets, etc. if you want you could wrap each one. My kids still hope for some of those secret gifts on our trips and they are now 12,15,17 :-). You should of seen the 6 of us all rolling our suitcases in a line when they were younger.

Take a road trip instead. The other passengers will hate you.
