Hi Moms,

I wanted to take a different approach with my 3yr old & put him in a indoor swim class instead of your typical swimming lesson at the local park like I did with my oldest son (now 10 ) when he was 2.
I would like to get some feed back from any of you who has put your child in a British Swim Ways classes or the Otter Swim classes.
Are they worth it & did your child enjoy the class & learn quickly from them.

I know one plus is that it's in doors & you don't have to worry about classes being cancelled due to rain.

Thanks in advance !

What can I do next?

When my daughter was 3 we did do the sink and swim it was kinda traumatic for her. It did save her though cause she did learn to swim to the side of the pool. I think if I could do it again though I'd have just taken her to the YMCA. I watched the kiddie class while my daughter was practicing for the pre swim team class and they really seemed to make it enjoyable for the kid as well.

we are in AZ and my kids do swim lessons all year long in an indoor pool and then have the summer months free to swim outdoors to keep us busy.

Love Love Love Aqua Child, they were awesome! My 3 year old was swimming after a week. Their course is 6 weeks long and you have to go every day (M-F) but it is worth it. My daughter cried the first day, then after that she loved it. Check out their website:

L.,

We've done both. I like British Swim better because it is a much warmer pool than Baby Otter. The instructors are about the same as well as the classes themselves. Our Baby Otter is in Plantation and the British Swim is Sunrise.

Baby Otter (outside) doesn't cancel for light rain - only heavy rain and our S. Florida thunderstorms. But British Swim (and any other indoor swim) has to cancel for thunderstorms as well - you shouldn't be in any water during a thunderstorm - including a bath or shower.

Good luck! C.

I used the YMCA last summer when my son was 4 and I am so glad we did! The classes were small, the instructors made it fun to learn. My son progressed quickly. I was able to be in the pool, on the other side, with my infant daughter but kind of watch his class at the same time. The younger children's classes are offered in the morning as well as the afternoon and there are make-up days included in the week if needed. The price was also very reasonable. This summer he couldn't wait to get started! Good Luck!
