We are getting a new fridge and right now we have the one with the freezer on the bottom--we used to have the basic freezer on the top. I wanted the side by side but my mom said I will hate it and the freezer is not big. I think I will like it but I want to be sure before we buy because we will be stuck with it. I am writing to ask what refridgerator you have and all the pros and cons--what you like about it and what dont you like about it.(the double door fridge with freezer on bottom is not an option as it is probably not in our budget)Thank you for your help once again!!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all your pros and cons--I still dont know what to do but will sleep on it for a while. I just feel if i had the side by side I would be able to see everything unlike my bottom freezer everything is stuffed in and i cant find a thing-- but have heard you cna teven fit a frozen pizza in a side by side--I dont know,i dont want make a bad choice and though i do have a deep freezer in the garage I dont want to rely on it becaus it is getting old. Thank you for all of your input and will keep it all in mind when I am deciding!

I used to have the kind your mom is talking about... and I agree, I would never go back to that kind. I LOVE my Amana with the freezer on the bottom. It has a top wire drawer that pulls out so you can see your frozen items easily.

We moved into a house that had a really old looking Amana and it lasted for eight more years with us. Something told me since that was an Amana and it had such a long "life span" to go with another Amana. I did and I am so happy with it. I did not bother to get one with an ice maker or filtered water on the door. We keep a large Brita water pitcher inside our fridge and that works for us. We've had this fridge for 5 yrs. and have not had any problems.

My GE profile stainless side-by-side looks so, so pretty in my kitchen...but I hate it! If you ever have to do any planning for parties/big meals, good luck trying to fit several trays of food in the refrigerator part because it is too narrow. I'm not serving up food for an army either; we're talking basic platters, plates, and bowls. You'd need an empty fridge and could only slide in about 3-4 platters (unless you want to stack them on top of each other and smash the food), as well as emptying out your fridge of everything else.

I also do dinner by design and I find I have to cram everything into my freezer and have considered getting a deep freezer for the garage just because I can't fit everything into the freezer.

I really don't like my side-by-side, but my husband (who, of course doesn't have to do any of the meal planning or prep) INSISTS on having a side-by-side with water and ice in the door because that's what he grew up with.

I really like my side by side but I also have a deep freezer too. We have 7 people in our house so being able to freeze stuff is big on my list. Good Luck.

Hi L.,
I have a Frigidaire side-by-side that is about nine years old and I think the freezer part is a little small for our family (5 of us). It has the ice maker inside and not in the door like the newer models. If I were to get a new one now I would put the ice in the door. Other than that I think, like anything else the new models have been improved and the size has been improved upon and that being said I would get another one.

I personally LOVE my side by side one. I have tons of room, in my opinion!

In my old fridge with the freezer on the top it was always sooooooo unorganized and too small in the freezer part! There was never enough room in our freezer for more than a few days worth of meats along with the frozen waffles, nuggets and other boxed items. And no way could I have tons of frozen veggies and fruit on hand! Tons of stuff would expire in the refrigerator because it would get pushed to the back and buried and forgotten!

Pros of my side by side.... the size, I also have a water filter and ice cube maker thingy. The freezer has a bin for storing my bags of frozen veggies and fruits and other bags on the bottom and also has 4 adjustable shelves in it... I took out one since I do not need it. I am also able to fit a large Red Baron Pizza box flat in it with no problems.... I actually have 4 on one shelf now :) And I probably have enough meat in there for atleast 2 weeks(15 packages of meats). Plus frozen bagels, waffles, fish sticks and chicken nuggets and other goodies. I still have a little bit of room left over. I am able to buy tons when it is on sale and freeze it and saves me money in the end!

The fridge has 2 bins for fruits and veggies and a 3rd for meats and cheeses. It has 4 shelves- 1 of them is a shelf that I can make as a half shelf or full so I can fit taller items on that one if I want- have never had to adjust it though except when I was defrosting a turkey one time. I put all my condiments, eggs and what nots on the door- 4 shelves there also. My daughter has a shelf for all of her organic and natural foods. A shelf for water and soda. and I can put 4 gallons of milk and 2 bottles of juice on the top shelf. The bottom shelf is for left overs and my hubbys lunch stuff.

Seriously, mine is HUGE and did not cost me an arm, leg and kidney to get either! Look at the different sizes of the inside and bring a box of the largest item you buy to see if it will fit with no problem. Watch for sales though and price shop!!!!! You might also want to check like Sears Outlet for a great price on which ever one you decide to get. I will personally NEVER go back to a freezer on top!!!
Blessings to you!

I hate my side by side. I feel like the fridge and freezer have very small compartments. I feel like it is hard to organize. I wish I could go back to my old fridge with the freezer on top and fridge on the bottom!
