Which Double Stroller Should I Get?

I will be having a baby at the beginning of February. I already have a daughter who is 2 1/2. I know that she is getting older now and should be able to start walking by herself in certain stores. There are times when I will just hold her hand and let her walk if we are making a quick stop. However, she likes to take her time and "stop to smell the roses". She is very easy going (slow). I love that about her but, I can't see myself dragging her behind and pushing a newborn in a stroller at the same time. I hate to buy another stroller, but I think it would be in the best interest of everyone. I am considering a sit and stand one. I have heard that the double strollers, especially those with two seats in front of each other are just too big. What do you think?

I have seen the sit and stand one and I have to say I love the looks of it. I have not personally used it, however. It looks like you could use it for one child as well and it would not be too bulky.

I have the Sit N Stand, too, and I love it! My daughter is 19 months older than my son, and she does very well with it. I think it helps her feel like a "big girl" too. Good luck!

I agree with shawn, I also considered buying the one that has a sit or stand seat in the back of a stroller that fits a baby. Their pricy, but im sure you'll get ur moneys worth.

Without a doubt I would get the sit and stand. I have three kids and have tried both. The sit and stand really is great for the independent but still young child plus a baby.
I would also recommend a used one... I have found that I am happiest when I don't have to pay full price for something I am unsure of!
Best of luck.

I was given (as a hand-me-down) a double stroller with the two seats in the front. It is very large and a little heavy. If I would have bought my own, I probably would have gotten the one with the stand/sit location in the back and the seat for the baby in the front. Believe me, it is much easier to have them both strapped into the stroller than trying to keep a handle on one while pushing a stroller with the other, especially if you go anywhere by yourself! Good luck!

I have a Phil & Ted's Sport and it is awesome. It can be a single or a double stroller. You can lay down the main seat so it can be flat for a newborn to lay in and put the extra seat in the front for your older child. My youngest two are 23 months apart and this has been a great stroller for us.

I have 3 children when number 2 was coming along number 1 was 18 months old I got a double stroller as a gift and it was the best thing anyone ever got me. Keep in mind children can't always keep up with mom and dad, also if your older child is ill it's easlier to push two kids then carry one and push one. Yes they are a bit bigger Cadillac v. a VW Bettle ? yes it is a bit but the benifits are well worth it. Remember something else if you are shopping there sadly are people that will almost walk on top of a child your child is safer in a stroller it allows you to have control and people will move more for a stroller then for a child (been there done that). A stoller provides a comfort zone and trust me the 2 yr old will want to ride while the new baby does as well and not you are making her into a baby (she is still a baby) so don't worry later in life she won't be damaged because mommy let her ride in a stroller at 2 or 3 yrs old she will be fine. Trust me if you don't get one your back will be sorry.......

I say go with the Joovy at babies' R'us for $150.00. I love mine. I have had it for 4mo. My daughters are 3yr and 15m. My 15 month loves to sit in front, its like a thrown for her. My three yr old loves it as well bc she can sit when she needs or I stop and she gets off to look at things. It folds a little more compact then a single big stroller. It is a little longer. it fits in my passat and pilot fine. You are able to use any car seat with it, which is why i love it. Not a big storage area and no cup holders for the adults. I am okay with that. It is very easy to move around in the small isle of the major department stores. I love it and would buy another if this got lost.

I do think you should get the sit and stand as well. I bought the Joovy sit and stand stroller. I do like it, but I wish I had bought the one step ahead double stroller instead. Their double stroller is a conventional double that converts to a sit and stand when the older child is ready. At times my 2 1/2 yr old would want to rest her head and fall asleep and with the sit and stand part there is no back for them to rest on. Also the Joovy is very heavy. When I bought the Joovy it was one of the lighter double sit and stands available. I hope this helps. Good luck

The Joovy sit and stand stroller is awesome. It is a bit heavier but solid construction, and turns on a dime. I have a 3 year old and an 8 month old and we didn't want a double stroller since Zane would rather walk then ride- but still needed a place for him once he tuckered out. www.babyride.com has good prices and usually free shipping.
hope this helps.

Get a Double stroller!! Gracos are the most reliable I have found!! I have 3 boys, 6yrs, 2 yrs, and 8 months. My middle one was 10 months when I got prego with my 3rd. They both still ride in the double stroller almost everywhere. Also with the graco's you can fit the infant car seat in the front or the back, it just clips on the tray. My 2 year old likes to sit in the back and play with the baby in the front. they look at each other and laugh and have a ball. The sit and stands are ok, but if you want them strapped in for any amount of time you can't do that cause the older one can get out. Just a suggestion. Also if they are both sleepy they can't both lay down in the sit and stand but in the double one they can both relax and lay down at the same time. Just a lot more room. I love my Cadillac!! =0)

Hands down the Combi Twin Savvy is the best! I have a 7 year old, 3 and a half year old, and 2 and a half year old. We got the stroller 3 and a half years ago when our middle child was born. It has been awesome for all of the kids. We still use it all the time, especially on our Disney trips (it has made 3 of those!), and it's in brand new condition! It fold compactly and easily, is light weight (my biggest requirement), and side by side (so no fighting over who goes in back and no steering issues with a larger child in the front). It fits through a standard doorway and and isles in stores. It has a shoulder carry strap to make it easy to load in the car, 2 baskets under the seats, lays almost flat for a sleeping child, and separately removable front bars for when the children get older. The 3 snack cups are great, 3 pouches in back are helpful for keys, waterbottles, cell phone, etc. Plus there are 2 pouches (one behind each seat) to hold crayons, kleenex, a quick wipe, etc. While we don't use this feature, it does also come equipt with speakers and attachments for music in each canopy. For all the features, especially the weight and durability, we found this the best product for the price....online you can find it for as low as the high 200's or low 300's. Best wishes!

Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your 2nd baby! I have 2 girls as well, 21 months apart, and they are now 3 1/2 and 22 months old. I actually waited a little bit before I bought a Chicco side-by side higher end umbrella stroller, and I most frequently use my Bugaboo stroller with a rolling board accesory in the back (similar to a sit-n-stand). My other mom friends LOVE their Joovy sit and stands, but you definitely can hold off for a couple months until you decide what you really want based on how your children are. Just carry your newborn in a Baby Bjorn or a sling while you push your older daughter in a stroller or allow her to walk with you. That way you have your hands free. I've heard from many moms that have the big, front and back double strollers that when both children are old enough to know better (sooner than we'd like, I know!), neither of them want to sit in the back of the stroller!

Also consider a model double stroller that is easy to maneuver with only 1 hand. Before you know it, your older one will want to walk with the stroller, or help push it, and if you have to have both hands on the stroller at all times, it makes it almost impossible to allow your older one to explore if you'd like her to. Of course, take this advice for what it's worth - just one mom's opinion!

We bought the Joovy Ultralight last summer for my almost 4 yr old boy and my 14 month old boy. They are both very comfortable in it. As others have mentioned, it turns easily and folds compactly (especially if you remove the rain hood and snack tray). My older child loves the ability to get in and out at will! The storage is smaller than some but you do have it. With the ultralight you also get a neoprene accessory with 2 drink holders and a pocket. I often will have just the little one in it while shopping and use the extra seat for carrying packages.
