Good afternoon MOMS, Im sure everyone is either loving or hating this hot california weather. Im loving it.

So heres my question and hoping someone can give me some recommendations. I dont have health insurance for myself, husband or kids. I need immunization shots for my 5 year old and I need a place that does it for free. I know theres places but can someone tell where. I new of a place next to Torrance High School but i believe someone told me it was closed. Any other place anyone may know of. I live in Gardena so anywhere close to torrance, redondo, manhattan beach or even gardena will do.

Hi I have the same problem. Health care is so expensive especially since I am 30 lbs over my ideal weight so insurance is more sxpensive. Public school have a program a few times a year when they give immunizations. You would have to call your local elementary school and check and I know the county health office does. There are low cost clinics also I go to Venice Family clinic and it is by donation. You might also ask your pediatrician's office. That is where I found out. Good luck!!

Hi there! There's a Torrance Public Health center on Del Amo and Vermont. If you're coming from Gardena, come South on Vermont (past 190th) and turn Left on Del Amo. It'll be on your left hand side. There is also a program called "Healthy Families" where the kids can get health care (I believe it is for uninsured kids only). Good luck!

The Torrance Health Department moved to the corner of Del Amo and Hamilton Street. It's right across from a storage place, right next to the Harbor Freeway...

Call this number. Its for the city of Los Angeles, but they maybe able to tell you where in your area.
My question is why havent you applied for Medi-Cal/Healthy families insurance for you and the kids? You should call your local Department of Public Social Services and inquire about that.

For free or low-cost immunizations,
call 1-800-427-8700 or see

Hope it all works out.

Hello R.,

You say you "need" immunization shots for your 5 year old -- it sounds like you are getting them so he will be elligible for school in the fall. If that is right, and if you otherwise would not have immunized your child, you should be aware that you do not have to immunize in rder to enroll your child in any public school. It is very simple to opt out of this -- the immunization form you turn into the school have a box on the back where you can waive the immunizations.

Good luck with everything,

L

Hello,

Not sure where but the local schools, WIC and other places might have that information. Wow, it's tough without insurance. Have you considered applying for Medi-Cal or Healthy Families?

Best of luck to you!

I would recommend you do a web search for a local CHDP(CALIFORNIA HEALTH AND DISABILITY PREVENTION PROGRAM)pediatrician. There are a lot of them. It's a free program based in income and family size.
