We are getting our 9 year old a wii for Christmas. We came across a package that comes with 1 controller, 1 nunchuck, wii sports and the new super mario bros. Do we need anything else? She has a b-day 2 weeks after Christmas so I want to give family ideas of what to get her to go with it if they ask.

What can I do next?

I don't have a wii. We stayed at a house on vacation that had a wii. It only had one controller. It was annoying to have to keep handing it to the next player. Also, there were two games that required 2 controllers for more than one person to play.

My girlfriend has a wii and they go thru a lot ot batteries. So pick up some extras.

The balance board is a must. If you get the one that has the Wii Fit Plus game in it, it has lots of fun mini type games in it that the whole family can enjoy:
Martial arts to music, dodging soccer balls, snowball fights, down hill skiing, obstacle courses, just to name a few.

They sell chargers for the remotes, but I didn't invest in one. I just bought a bunch of AA batteries. So far so good (got ours last xmas). The batteries last a pretty good while. But I think the charger things don't require you to remove the batteries to recharge them, which would be a definite plus.
My 9 yr old daughter really likes the Just Dance Wii games. But then, she also loves Indiana Jones, Batman lego, and the Mario games too. She also really enjoys the Pilates/Yoga stuff on the WiiFit game. My son is more into Mario than our daughter is. He's 12.
I'm planning on getting our kids Epic Mickey for Xmas this year.

You must get two steering wheels. Driving (Mariokart) is our favorite. Our family members aged 2, 6, 35 and 37 - but the 2 year old is a pretty bad driver. Wii Fit is pretty cool, but I hanestly don't use it for fitness so much as fun family games.

I'd go with the balance board and wii fit plus. There are lots of games there for the whole family and the board is really a lot of fun. We use rechargeable batteries for ours, since by the time you have two remotes and the board it is about 10 batteries, so it seemed like rechargeable might end up cheaper in the long run. You may want a second controller depending on games and if two people can play at the same time. They also have an attachment that senses motion in more directions now, some of the new remotes may come with it. Have fun playing with the whole family.

You're gonna need a few extra controllers and nunchucks to start- possibly a balance board if you intend to use it at all for fitness games & such. All those accessories for wii sports like the tennis racket, golf club, etc., are completely unnecessary.

Also, mario kart is awesome, but the steering wheels aren't necessary, you can just turn the remote sideways.

I just got the same set. I added 2 controllers and 2 nunchucks. Make sure the controllers have motion built-in. Did you get the 4pack of rechargable batteries/backs for your remotes? They seem to be the way to go.
I took the mario back. I saw little blow up cars for preschool kids to sit in while playing it and I wonder if my 9 year old is too old for it.
I went to amazon and typed in wii games. they have zoo, scooby, barbie, etc.. Games are 15-40 each so wii games will be a great birthday gift.

You might want an extra remote and nunchuk just to make it more convenient if she's doing 2-3-or-4 players (but some games don't use the nunchuk at all--so depends).

Mario Kart is a really fun game (all the mario games my almost-8 yo son loves) but as far as "girl" games....not sure.

Wii Sports Resort is what my son wants now.
