We are getting a Wii system for our daughters for Christmas and were wondering what are good games for their ages (8, 5 and 3.5). Also, it seems like there are several different controllers/joysticks ... how do you know which ones to get for which games? Who has the best prices for games .... online or local? Thanks for the advice!

In addition to the games mentioned my kids love Wii Carnival Games. It has a lot of carnival games - ball tosses, dunk tank, shooting galleries, etc. They started playing that when they were 3 and 4.

We got one last year and my 5 year old daughter likes bowling (on Wii Sports that was included with the system) and the soccer and hula hooping that comes with Wii Fit (uses the balance board). We purchased it at Costco and got a great price. We checked out a Dora game from the library that she liked a lot and I saw it for around $20 at Kohls. Even my 2.5 year old could do some of the things on there. This Christmas I am going to get my 5-year-old a game where they can sing and dance (I think it's called Pop Superstar or something like that and uses a microphone) because she wants to have a Rockstar party for her 6th b-day and I thought that would be a fun activity. Sometimes at Target I see games for around $15, including many kids' titles. I was happy to see that our library has games, so we can try before we buy sometimes. Enjoy- it can be a lot of fun for the whole family!

I like Wii Play.....it's got a bunch of fun, not too hard games on it.......so you might want to check it out.....gives you variety.....

Also Big Lots sells Wii games now for less than 20.00....not the newest and greatest, but starting out, that's ok........

Good Luck and have fun.....it's fun to play......we love bowling.....take care.

My kids ( 6 yrs & almost 4 yrs) love Super Mario bros and Mario Kart. The game should tell you what controller you need. They also like the Wii Sports that comes w/ the Wii. Toys R Us will do buy one get one 50% off often. That's when we like to get a new game.

The game suggestions that everyone mentioned are great. But I just wanted to let you know that GameStop offers used games as well as you being able to sell games back to them for store credit. We use them alot.

I definitely think the balance board is worth it. My daughter loves most of the games on the Wii Fit Plus game, that requires a balance board, and often is bundled together with it ($100).
The controllers are confusing until you have the game. Most of what you see in the stores (controllers) are just shells that you can put the actual Wii remote INTO to enhance the experience, and are totally unnecessary. Some people like using them, (like the steering wheel for MarioKart, etc), but my kids prefer to play without them. The only remote/joysticks you really need, are the actual Wiimote (with motion plus sensor is the best) and what they call a Nunchuk (which is the little one with the joystick). Look on the back of the game packaging and the top corner should tell you what you need to play the game. Ask one of the teens at the store and they can explain it for you. ;) (Kind of like the DS games will show if you can download play and whether or not the players need their own cartridge to download or can jointly use just the one).

My daughter also really likes (in addition to the yoga, ski jump, bubble on the river and hula hoop, on the Fit Plus) the Just Dance. She does like to play the Mario games with her brother and Indiana Jones and Batman lego, too. She is 9. Left to her own devices, she'd just as soon pull out a yoga mat and do yoga for 30 minutes, though. :)

We like the Wii Sports Resort (you'll need the Wii remote, nunchuck and a wii motiion plus), Wii Music is fun (wii remote, nunchuck, (balance board for the drums), Wii fit (balance board, nunchuck, wii remote), animal crossing (the usual with an optional microphone) or simm animals. We usually buy games online at Amazon. Most games take the wii remote, nunchuck and don't forget the Wii rechargeable batteries + charging station. The kids take off the grip covers and don't like using them. Most games allow 2 players (at least 2 remotes). We have 3 but haven't used all 3. We usually give the kids a set amount of time each (1 hour max).

my boys play the sports one that came with it more then any of the other games we have bought. I suggest with having 3 girls that you make sure the games are multiplayer. We buy all of our games used from game stop so that if the boys don't like them or we don't like them they can be exchanged for a different game. I hate the thought of getting stuck w/ a game that no one wants to play. Plus they check all the used games so if it doesn't work you can be bring it back and its a lot cheaper then buying the new ones. It tells you right on the different games what you need. A few games are compatible with the fit board we got a winter sports game that uses the fit board it is so much fun :) The boys love that one too.
