Hi. I am 31 years old and I am at a standstill. I do not know what to do to further my education or where to start. I need to talk to someone or get put in the right direction to figure out what I am to do with the rest of my life career wise. I don't have anything that sticks out to tell me what I should pursue. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

What can I do next?

I was in that situation a few years ago and went to the junior college in my area and asked this very question to a counselor. They advised me to take their test which helps to place me in a career that is most fitting to my interests and personality. It was great and gave me some very clear answers. It was very exciting because there were things that I would have never thought about before that I found I would LOVE to do! I don't think that they charged for this test.

Two things come to mind. One, you are working on retail already. I assume that means at store level. Have you given much thought to corporate level retail? I went from store to corporate and loved it. There are several major retailers headquartered here in the metroplex, and they love to hire people who have store experience. It really makes sense for them to have people who understand what it is really like out there in the field. You might get a job as a buyer's assistant, or in allocations or inventory control, loss prevention or any number of things that would draw upon your experience. I really enjoyed merchandise replenishment. Companies I can think off just off the top of my head with HQs here are Sally Beauty Supply, J.C. Penney, Michaels, Radio Shack, and Pier One, but I know there are others. If you decide to go this route, feel free to message me and I'd be happy to help you with your resume or answer questions you may have. Other than that I would encourage you to do what you love. If you go a whole new direction then jump in the deep end and do something you LOVE. What are your hobbies? Any hobby can lend itself to a career. There are community college programs centered on child development, television, radio and film, even art or wine!

Congratulations on wanting to further your education. I have made the same decision.

You didn't say if you were going back to get a degree or get another degree.

I plan to start back at TCC and then move to a university. Whatever you do, I would not recommend Everest College. For the money they charge, the service doesn't match. I had a horrible experience with them recently and have decided to continue at a regular / traditional college.

UOP has some great degree plans and my husband recently graduate from there.

Good luck!

do you have a library card to fort worth library? one of their online resources is a career guide. it talks about different careers and I believe you can even take a "test" to see what careers match your interest. it's good to do one just to get you in the right direction. i did notice you lived in euless. Check with them as well and see if they have that as an online resource. After graduating college, working retail, the insurance industry, and teaching elementary, I still wonder what it is I want to do when "i grow up". I'm the same age as you. lol right now i'm a SAHM but know one day it will be time for me to start that career decision again.
