Hi ladies, just for fun question: What is your favorite brand of coffee? I am a big Starbucks fan...dark roast and the bolder the coffee is the better. I think my favorite is Komodo Dragon blend.....yummy. I also am a fan of Seattle's coffee. My morning indulgence is a cup of good coffee with a little bit of Hazelnut creamer AND Caramel Macchiatto creamer.

So, what do you look for in a great tasting coffee?

What can I do next?

I like french roast from whole foods, when i smell it i feel like those ladies in the herbal essence commercials from the 90s.

If i can get my hands on some Jamaican blue mountain i can have bragging rights.........but i really actually prefer the dark espresso blend of french roasted coffee.

illy is my hands down favorite coffee. My inlaws turned me onto it in Rome, years ago (it's what is served in most Roman espresso stands and restaurants). http://www.illyusa.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/index.html It's about $20-$35 per pound depending on the market. Personally, I won't use anything else for espresso... and an 8.8 ounce can of it ($11-$16) makes about 60 or so shots or dopio shots. So it's funny... because I do shots, I end up spending a LOT less than my family which does french press, and Even more than friends who do drip coffee. AKA, how I justify the expense

My favorite Starbucks coffee bean (I'm in seattle, after all) is Casa Cielo, although there are quite a few I like for different reasons. Starbucks has over 35 kinds of beans/coffee (about 10 of which are seasonal or limited), many of which are radically different, and are sourced from all over the world. Each region, of course, producing different kinds and qualities. Peaberry is another favorite (it's a quirk of certain beans, instead of splitting in two, it's a single. Creates a VERY different, almost chocolately or vanillin flavor. Milder and less bitter than normal beans of the same variety, but still as deep and complex.

My favorite ways to drink coffee (in order) are

- Espresso shots w sugar
- Turkish
- French Press

Cocktails
- Iced Vanilla Soy Lattes
- Caramel Macchiato

I don't drink a lot of coffee... it makes me too sleepy (adhd and the opposite caffeine reaction).

I like Green Mountain, which may be regional, I'm not sure. I also like Starbucks. And I agree with you J K, the bolder the better. I won' buy a coffee bean that is anything less than dark roast or bold, but I prefer an x-bold. The best coffee that I ever had was Jamaican Blue Mountain, but it's like $50.00 lb, and I can't afford that.

Here in Houston we have a brand that is called Cafe Bustelo. It is awesome!! It is so rich and strong that I usually do a couple spoons of that and some Folger's so I can take it, but yum!! I also like Folger's Columbianand pretty much any dark Starbucks flavor. I always joke with my hubby that I like my coffee like I like my men, dark, strong and rich with just the right amount of sweetness ;)

I drank Starbuck's Serena Organic and Seattle's Best's Seattle's Best Blend before I got my Keurig.

Now it's the Murray's Kona cups for my Keurig, with half and half and sugar.

Coffee is my boyfriend on the side.

@Riley: You are my kind of gal !
I wanted to move to Seattle, for the greenery and because, well, I love coffee. I can't afford that illy but it sounds divine! Maybe I'll ask my hubby to put it in my Christmas stocking or maybe I'll put it in his!

I love (anything) Starbucks for a variety of reasons and I may just go buy some Casa Cielo.

Isn't it true though, that storage and age of coffee make a difference too? Not to mention, grinding it fresh each use with a conical burr grinder. I do have an automatic espresso machine and well, suffice to say it is just a bit too convenient to make a cup of espresso now. ;-)

Do you have a Turkish coffee pot? I have a drip, espresso, french press and I did consider a Turkish coffee pot.

I am trying to go vegan and what is my major hold-back is I can't stand soy in my coffee so I will try the soy latte.

But great question J.K. I love learning about my favorite beverage !

I love Dunkin Donuts and McDonalds (if I'm on the run) the most. I usually make the Dunkin Donuts original roast blend in the morning at home, and if I don't have time to make my coffee, I'd go to Dunkin Donuts and I will get an iced coffee. If I'm at McDonalds, I'd get a McCafe Mocha. Right now as I'm typing this, I'm drinking an original roast I made an hour ago. Just thinking about McDonalds make me hungry. I'm pregnant, so it's worse now.

We mail-order out coffee and espresso from Counter Culture or Intelligentsia. It's awesome because it's roasted and sent to you the next day, so we don't have to buy the stuff sold in stores (yuck).

I love Berres Brothers coffee, but since I moved from WI. it is harder to get.
I have found we like the Sinful Pastry flavor that you can buy a lot of places ( Churchill label) we are fans of the italian sweet cream coffeemate coffee creamer. Although lately due to sinus drainage I have been just having mine with some Splenda, because the creamer makes me phlegmy. I know TMI = ) I do like to buy espresso beans ( we just buy Targets Archer farms brand) and grind my own beans and use my baby espresso maker to make some top notch coffee drinks. I think my drinks stand up to any professionally made ones...and they definitely do not cost an arm and a leg, doesn't hurt that I worked at a coffee shop as a Barista for quite a while either though ( although it really is not a hard art to learn!)
