Hi there,
Does anyone know what kind of doctor I should see about taking supplements. I am currently on some prescription medications and also take magnesium, calcium and zinc. I am afraid of overdosing or interactions. Any suggestions??
Thanks.

What can I do next?

Start by talking to your pharmacist. That is what they study, drugs, reaction, risks and interaction (and he's free). Then talk to your prescribing doctor. He should know ALL the medications you are taking, including over the counter and supplements.

Look for a naturopath.

A pharmacist would probably be able to assist you, or the prescribing physician. If you want to take supplements, see a Homeopathic or Naturopathic physician.

id go the easiest route frist and ask your pharmacist's opinion, they should know.. if they are unsure then id call your doctor that is prescribing the meds to you

Personally, I'd talk first with the doctor who is doing the prescribing your medications and find out how these drugs interact with supplements. If he/she is not available, your pharmacist can be of help, too.

You can also look online for a website that allows to check for drug interactions by simply putting the medicines you currently take in a tool bar. I would google that and see what you find. Good luck

I believe doctors in general are limited in their knowledge of vitamins. Do some research and find a vitamin brand that sounds good to you and then find a rep or visit a vitamin shop.

I am a Shaklee Distributor and I sell and take Shaklee vitamins. When someone contacts me I ask them what their goal is. What their health issues are, etc... and then make a recommendation. You can find someone like me or you could do your own research, decide what you need and go for it. Just be aware all supplements are not equal. Look for brands that are pure (tested for purity). Research your brand first. That should lead you to someone that can guide you for your personal needs.
