What Does Your Bedroom Look like Right Now?

This is kind of just my own curiosity. I have a feeling I'm going to be posting random dumb questions in the next week or so. We live in a relatively small 2-bedroom duplex, so our bedroom is also the extra storage room. Right now, the bed is unmade (I leave for work before anyone's up, and that is the last thing I'm nagging about), I know where my dresser is, but to get to it I have to wade over boxes of kids' clothes that are off-season or too big or too small, and past a bag of matching crib bedding and some framed pictures we took out of the kids' rooms that we haven't hung up anywhere else. My side of the bed has large department store bags full of baby clothes, clean, sized, and folded since we don't have a dresser for the baby--the rest of the clothes are in my closet hanging shoe organizer since my shoes never made it there at the end of the season. They are somewhere under the kids' clothes mixed in with my all-season heels that I haven't been able to wear since I was about 5 months pregnant. I know my sewing table is on my husband's side of the bed, with a sewing machine on it, but it is buried under mending I'm sure I'll never do. We have a few extra bookshelves with the books that don't fit downstairs on them, and all the extra guest bedding folded neatly on the rocking chair so you can't sit on the chair, even if you really want to. :)

Once in a while the room is clean, relaxing, organized, and *gasp* pretty. Anyone else find that the one room they wish were a relaxing sanctuary gets buried by everything else? Any inspiration for those of us who simply can never get to that corner of the house? :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Oh, I forgot to add that there are at least two baskets of clean, folded laundry that has not been put away since I can't leave my kids unsupervised without risking their lives, and they CANNOT play in my room. :)

Thanks so far! Our room has actually been cleaned pretty recently, but I usually have to shift the storage to clean it. I have made a point of only keeping out clothes I'm wearing and all my pre-baby clothes are folded on the top shelf of my closet. I love the idea of a clutter blog! I take pictures of my house for myself sometimes because it is so atrocious that I can hardly believe it, but seeing it in pictures makes me so mad I'll do something about it. I also, of course, take pictures of everything when it is clean and tidy so I remember that it CAN be done and how much happier I am. Maybe I should just make that part of my evening routine when my husband gets home (we work opposite schedules, which is why it is so hard to even put laundry away): I get to spend five minutes in our bedroom making it restful after putting one of the kids to bed while he unwinds downstairs. :) Can't hurt!

Bed: unmade. Piles of stuff for upcoming kids birthday party and stuff to sew.

I'm actually scared my husband will trip over something while getting ready for work in the semi-darkness lol.

It's not as bad as it was last night, though. We just instituted "30 minute pick-up" where me, my husband, and the kids put away as much stuff around the house in 30 minutes as we can and my house actually looks pretty good!

Mine is close to spotless, bed is made. There isn't a single item laying on the floor. About a year ago, we bought a king size bed, and purchased pricey new bedding, and basically re-did the entire room. We went from a bedroom for a couple in their 20's with babies, to an elegant couple in their 30's, and I think since we put so much money into it, I've made a point to make it my favorite spot. I went from never making the bed, ever, a year ago. At night when I go in there to lay down, it is the most amazing thing that nothing needs to be done except pulling down the bedding and jumping in!

In 2009 I told my husband that our master bedroom needed a makeover. I was desperate for that sanctuary! My room was littered with boxes of photo albums that my husband had promised to make bookshelving for but never got around to making. My walk in closet was the storage room for just about everything that didn't have a proper place for. We had carpeting, though clean, was old and was making my allergies far worse than they needed to be. I wanted change. So I embarked on a mission to make this dream a reality. I found a new color for the walls, tore out the carpeting and replaced it with bamboo flooring, a new duvet cover, bedside lamps, a new ceiling fan, and a window treatment that I absolutely love. I go into my room and I feel so happy and peaceful. My husband made me the shelving for my photo albums, which is in the walk in closet now. We had the Container Store design our walk in closet and that has got to be my favorite part of my room! It's gorgeous. I threw out so much stuff, consigned a lot of other stuff, had a big yard sale, and vowed that my room would never ever become the drop off point for items that have no other place to go. It's truly a sanctuary and I love it! I had a vision of beach-like (blues, creams, tans, brown). It's perfect!

i keep a relatively clean house........except for my bedroom :-( i think that falls into moms taking care of everything and everyone else before themselves. ok, my room right now. i'm in bed so obviously unmade bed (lol) my nightstand is a little dusty, has 2 book, 2 water bottles my keys and cellphone...my dresser is loaded with books (I need a bookshelf!) and some papers..I have a huge dog crate in my bedroom (ugh!!!) that i would LOVE to get out of here. i am currently training my puppy to gradually be out of the crate when i'm not home...i have no closet doors (long story) my closet floor is cluttered with shoes and a few extra throw pillows. and my bedroom is in need of a good vacuming and dusting! my bedroom is neglected :-( !! Oh, on the side of my bed is loaded with dvds! lol, when I got a new entertainment center there are no shelves so i've had them in a basket on the side of my bed but last weekend i needed the basket for something else so i dumped the dvds out! don't ask me why. but i need to find somewhere to put those.

Right now it is a mess with the seven outfits I tried on this morning laying on the floor! It was spotless yesterday though. You would feel SO much better if you got it organized. I know you know that. you have to just bite the bullet and do it. And it will probably not take THAT long, Thats what always happens to me when I procrastinate something. I may wait months to clean a closet or something and when I do it literally takes about 15 minutes. And then I am like-I should have done this so long ago! But in the vicious cycle of procrastination of course I don't learn from that.

My bedroom is a disaster. It drives me crazy. I have the most beautiful lamps and quilts and for some reason, everything ends up in my room. Especially my kid half the time. He has his own room and sleeps in it. But for some reason, everything is better in the world in my room.

My room is a sanctuary of sorts. Not the kind I envision. But my son is 15 and I doubt he'll be hanging out with me for too much longer.
I'll have all the time in the world in a couple of years to have no more socks on my floor or a kid stealing my pillows.
Like I said, he has his own room he loves. But mom's room is always better for some reason.

It is what it is for now. Pretty lived in. What else would I rather it be?
I can have a pristine sanctuary someday.

I love this...it makes me feel alot better.
My bed is NEVER made during the week. I get up at 5:30AM everyday. Who wants to make a bed then? I sometimes make it on the weekends. I know my bedroom isn't the cleanest right now, there are some things I need to put away...probably could use a dusting and a vacuuming.

We remodled our basement a few years ago to be a master bedroom and bath. I have a lot of room, but the TIVO is down there, so my kids are always lounging. If they want to watch what they recorded in my room they either have to make my bed, or exercize on the eliptical. I read somewhere that if your bed is made, your room in 80% clean, so that is the price they pay for TIVO!

Fun question! My almost 9 year-old daughter and I have lived in a one-bedroom condo for over three years now. We have a bunk bed (full on bottom, twin on top) and fun furniture, rug, and bedding from IKEA. And the longer we've been here, the more stuff seems to collect!

It is messy right now and the bed is not made! She grows out of her clothes faster than I can sort them, it seems, and collects stuffed animals and little toys. And my clothes don't quite fit in my set of plastic bins anymore, either. The rug needs to be vacuumed, but that would mean picking up everything first!

I WILL get to the chore of sorting and getting rid of extra clothes, then I will dust and vacuum, and then the room looks really cute!

ugh i hate the clean-but-not-put-away-laundry! lol. my bedroom is the last room to get cleaned. mostly because it's the last room anyone would see upon visiting my house! it's probably a good thing we have a dog now, because she sleeps in her crate in our room now, so i HAVE to vacuum and tidy up a bit at least occasionally lol.

Cramped LOL
The master bedroom is: My husband and my bedroom, my youngest bedroom AND my husband's office. The rocking chair gets turned to face his desk during the day and into the room facing the ottoman at bedtime, it's on one of those desk floor mats to not ruin the carpet and so it spins easily.
As you walk around the room counterclockwise you go...
wall 1: computer desk, night table, Calif King bed, night table, diaper pail, gap for dresser drawers to open
turn corner to wall 2: dresser/changing table combo, crib, gap for wardrobe doors to open
turn corner to wall 3:wardrobe where youngest clothes are, hubby&my dresser, my jewelry cabinet, bedroom door, bathroom door
turn corner to wall 4: closet..that's it It's a full wall closet.
There is a U shaped walkway around the bed to get to everything. Everything is smashed right up against the other. It was like playing Tetris to make things fit when we set up while I was pregnant! LOL
There just isn't any room for anything to really go.
I make sure to pull the covers up on the bed every day but I don't make them all pretty, they just get crinkled up if hubby sit on it during conference calls or I change the baby's clothes on it or any number of other things that happens on it all day since it's right next to his work desk. I keep everything in nice baskets on the changing table and on top of my dresser so it always looks "put together". I try to keep the closet doors closed just to give it a tiny edge of looking tidy but that doesn't always happen.
Right now because my daughter just outgrew a size clothes and I haven't been able to take the old ones out of the wardrobe the plastic tubs with the current size is slipped into the space that would be empty to open the doors and I'm dressing her out of the boxes.
I do my best to keep it looking tidy for all that is crammed in there but it's hard.
We're hoping and saving and hoping again that we can move soon into something bigger so my youngest can have her own room but for now we're out of rooms since we have 2 other kids too.
The only bit of advice I can give it try to get pretty baskets or those cloth boxes for things so it looks more intentional instead of bags and cardboard boxes. It's a small thing and the stuff is still there but it looks like you mean for it to be there instead of it just being there. Maybe pick up one of those rubbermaid chest of drawers to store your baby's clothes. My friend did that inside her baby's closet and it looks amazing! Drawer for onsies, drawer for hats & socks..you get the idea. I'm going to be doing it myself for my daughters' shoes, socks, jackets etc. It's still on the floor where the bags are but it looks nicer and it will sometimes take up less space because it goes up instead of out. You can put casters on it so you can scoot it out of the way when you vacuum or need to get to something behind it. It's a ton cheaper than a dresser and lighter so it can be moved. Later it can be used for toys or something. Under bed storage boxes are fantastic if you have space to put bed linens and stuff into.
Good luck!
edit:Oh my! That got long..I'm sorry!

bed is unmade
3 baskets of (clean) folded laundry ready to put away, they have been there for 2 days.
can't actually see any of the tops of my chests of drawers and dressing tables for "stuff"
my closet doors are bulging open because of all the shoe I have just chucked in there on the floor.

Right now, it's a mess. This week has been so phenomenally busy for me that I just haven't had the change for my regular cleaning routine. I am exhausted so I haven't had the energy to get after the kids to do their chores once we're done battling with homework and my husband is working on papers for class so he's out of the loop too and unable to help. LOL

You room sound so much like mine! My bed hasn't been made in several days and it's really suffering; my husband really makes a rats nest out of it. I don't have baby clothes in there anymore but all off season clothing is in suitcases under the bed (Or at least are supposed to, they're beside the bed right now because I was looking for something but haven't found it yet; did find the drop spindle I've been looking for though. LOL). There is a mound of baskets full of folded clean laundry (one for each person) I plan on putting away this weekend on one side of the bed and the other side of the bed has a mound of books that fell on the floor last night when a shelf broke. Grrrr The big chest we keep blankets & sheets in isn't tidy either and stuff is spilling out because I didn't take the proper time with it this week as I usually do. The kids got fresh bedding out for themselves and of course made a mess of it. And I can't see the top of either dresser due to this weeks supplies of children's artwork, old homework of my husbands, my 'to be read' pile of books, etc. I'm so looking forward to at the three day weekend coming up to get some order restored!

I love my room and like you I have a lovely bedspread and curtains and old-fashioned (in a good way) furniture but it is always full of laundry. The laundry bin is in my room, the ironing is in 2 huge piles and I usually always have my airer up for drying clothes (don't have a dryer at the moment). If my mom comes over she always asks sarcastically if I have started a new business taking in other peoples laundry!! haha mom :-( And if people are coming over its my room that stuff gets thrown into. I will sometimes go crazy and have a major tidy but I would rather spend my free time with my daughter as I work full time.
