I have an Oster and love it. I can chop nuts, crush ice, etc. About once a year I replace the rubber seal on the bottom of the container because it gets worn out looking and I worry it the seal my leak. We use it everyday sometimes 3 - 4 times a day, especially in the summer, the kids love to make smoothies and virgin strawberry daiquiris.

I just bought an Oster blender. We've been using it for a month and no complaints yet. While looking around I found out that its best to have metal to metal gear contact. The ones that are plastic seem to give the most problems of failing.
I bought mine at bed, bath and beyond. I believe they are also sold at target and walmart.

Hamilton B. makes a nice one for $20. It is glass which I think is important because it doesn't take on the smell of whatever you are blending. I bought mine at Walmart so I know the price is good there but I'm sure about other places. You could always price compare online.

I have a Cuisinart Smart Stick which I absolutely love! I've used it to puree soup right in the pot, and smoothies right in the pitcher. I love not needing to transfer things back and forth between containers. It's easy to clean and easy to use. I find I use it much more than the old style blender I have.

I have Oster, and have had for years. But I do a lot of slushies (grinding ice with strawberries and lemonade mix) and it has taken its toll on the machine. So we are eyeing a very expensive one, the name slips my mind right now. (Not the Vitamix, we want its rival....)

I also have a Bosch blender to go on my Bosch mixer(LOVE LOVE LOVE that mixer!!) but HATE the blender because the bottom part of it fits 'inside' the jar and it's really hard to know if you've gotten it in right and if it starts leaking, you don't know till you have a nice mess. So I never use that, although the Bosch is GREAT.
