It sounds like a wart, if it's no bigger than the size of a pimple. Try putting duct tape over it (I'm serious) it will go away if it is....two to three days of duct tape, keep it water tight.

Could it be a wart? I have had a couple and they are just little skin colored bumps. I had one burned off but it came back, so I just waited with the others and they went away on their own after about a year.

Have you ever had a wart before? That may be what it is. They can be very tiny and flesh colored. Sometimes they look almost like they have a seed in them, but not always. Sometimes they look sort of puckery and cauliflower-like too, but sometimes are smooth.
Warts are caused by a virus. If you pick at it or even touch it with another finger, you can transmit it to your other fingers and toes.
There is over the counter medicine with salicylic acid that eats them away, but you have to use it consistently with the directions and sometimes for a very long time. Dermatologists care burn or freeze them off, but it can leave a little scar.

I used to get them on my fingers and toes until I got pregnant and then they mysteriously disappeared. I've heard that if you have them while pregnant it can be dangerous, but I'm not sure why or how much truth there is to that.

Best to see a dr. if it gets sore or is bothersome!

Hi J..
It sounds like a ganglion cyst which is not serious. It can come from overuse or trauma. if it causes pain or gets too pig it can be drained.

Hi J.,

Is the bump at a joint, and does it feel soft? If so it could be a ganglion cyst. Just Google for ganlion cyst and you will find a site that explains it. If you finger is numb it might be sitting on a nerve. A doctor ususally just drains the fluid from them and thats it. I have had a few, they are not very attractive but nothing to worry about.

Hope this helps

J.,

It could be a ganglia. I had one where my finger met my hand and had it surgically removed years ago. I also had one recently that sort of went away on its own.

I am not a physician but I have been told you never mess around with anything on your hands. If it is an infection it quickly damages the muscles and tendons in your hand and your could lose a finger or a hand! Get to your doctor!
